Wow, that is one of the most ridiculous looking surround setups I've ever seen.

I would not call it ‘ridiculous’ - but it is a weird one, for sure.

These guys were allowed to play.....and they did play 😁

There is something similar (not quite as weird, though) in the cinema room of the BeoHome in Struer - I am sure it sounded ridiculous good at the ISE.

I was lucky to get an invite from an friend or i would not have been attending.

I visited the Bang & Olufsen stand and looked and also listend to this set up.I,m no expert but it sounded not good.Way to loud and to much without much detail in the sound.Iw was a loud film they showed me.I also saw a pair of black big speakers who sounded very nice.Costs were 35000 euro,s  a pair in black version but really nice.

Why the ceiling speakers? Can any B&O product decode Atmos now?

This type of installation would make sense in a dedicated home theater. However, who would ever want to drill that many holes in their regular living area walls? It seems absolutely ridiculous that B&O would present this type of installation when they don't even have a BeoSystem to support a 4K projector and Dolby Atmos for a serious home theater.

I know the brand likes to be different and aspirational, but who the heck would aspire to that setup

Guess when there’s nothing genuinely new or interesting to show, this kind of thing happens

Yeah, save the overreaction for when they try the same thing with Edge's!  Just imagine... 5 or 6 Dumbo-ears sticking out from the walls, shooting the sound... where, exactly?  Saaayy, they could update the firmware to do THX decorrelation and make dipole surrounds ;-!  (Wish I had PeterPan's skillz, I'd mock up a photo.)

Please don’t (do any photo mock ups)

One is more than enough

How does ‘firmware updated dipole surrounds’ look.........just in case P.P. would start photoshopping on that theme ❓

Same as anybody uses ceiling speakers to do rear-surround duty in an in-wall-speakers install, maybe? Though they did show on-wall Rear Surround Left in the video (presumably there was a RSR also). Perhaps the employees at the show could answer?  But speaking of which, there is a question perhaps admitting serious thought: What does the DSP programming in the configuration system do here?  Aside from the "usual" required DSP work to avoid comb-filtering with the multiple drivers and the mid-bass hump from an on-wall install, are any of the "modes" appropriate for L/R/SL/SR?  Their "pushing the vocal to the middle and the orchestra to the edges" idea that was touted for the Shape, might be used in the L/R speakers to somehow improve dialog (L/R push toward the center) or timbre-match to the different center speaker.  In theSL/SR pair what could you use DSP for?  With enough drivers (== cone area) one might argue that separate LFE subwoofer was unnecessary, but you'd have to hack the DSP to adjust the various delays to the room so the bass didn't cancel or resonate at the main listening position.  Maybe that's what you do with the ceiling speaker.  You can imagine all kinds of possibilities, but I wonder if any are worth pursuing...

Absolutely no different from a stock Edge, that's the point, already drivers aimed both directions, just what they are sending would be adjusted.

Looong story short - it’s just an example of how the Shape can be used as a regular speaker.....no BandOnTheWall DSP’ing there.
