I bought a pair of used Beovox MC120.2 speakers for £30 not knowing what I was getting myself into... seemed like a good price - speakers 'look' amazing (but a bit tatty to be honest) - hooked them up and NO BASS?

So that's no bass from either loudspeaker - sound is coming out of the treble and mid-range, so what's going on here? Do I need to somehow get into the speakers and sort this out?

Do the woofes’ cones move in when pushed gently? Should move in with the slightest of pressure and then bounce back when released.

You got a fantastic deal and these would be worth the money it will take to get fully working.

They certainly look nice. I don't know if you are familiar with the insides or not but here are some photos after I removed the front panel...

So any help in diagnosing the fault would be appreciated:

If the Bass drivers pass the "push test", Change the electrolytic capacitors in the crossovers, check the other components, clean all connections for oxidation.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

The drivers do pass the push test OK. I cleaned the connections to the bass driver using deoxit D5 - don't forget the treble and midrange units work. fine.

As Soren says, I’d check C1 15uf, R1 6.8 if the service manual I have here is the same as what is installed. Once you get it working I’d want to replace all those capacitors anyway.

I’d start by testing the woofer for functionality. You can try by putting a 9v battery to it if you don’t have a meter. Lots of YouTube videos about testing drivers you should check out first.

I've put a meter across the terminals of the bass driver and not getting any reading - I guess that means open circuit and a shot bass unit.

Both speakers have the same problem.

Can the bass units be reconditioned - the magnet is etched with X820415

Difficult repair.
Under the dustcap the thin copper leads that run from where they meet up with the flexwires to the voicecoil gets eaten away by the
glue used to secure the voicecoil former to the cone.
Careful drilling, heating and cutting into the glue, close up to the coil former will often uncover a tiny piece of lead that a fresh piece
of lead can be soldered onto.
Close to the wire I use a dedicated (cheap) soldering iron to melt away the glue without risking damage to the thin leads.

OK a better question perhaps - can I send the bass units off somewhere to get them professionally repaired? Seems a shame to replace them with another set of woofers that may never be as good as the originals.

Funny how both these speakers suffered the same problem.
