Has the Beosound 35 been discontinued? I don't see it on B&O's website anymore (at least in the US).

The website seems to be quite disorganized right now. It has the Celestial and Palatial speakers under Sound Systems and the Core listed under Accessories.

Yes it’s a mess. Accessories mixed in with products (but only in some cases). I’m struggling with a page called “speakers” showing the A1 through BL90s in no particular order whatsoever.

I don't think it ever sold in big numbers, did it?

I have to say I liked it, but not £1,745 liked it...

It never sold in numbers like the BeoLab 3500, which when I started with B&O in 2000 was priced at £995. Sadly it was priced out of the market and the portfolio. I am sure something new and shiny will come in the future, live being optimistic Smile

The BeoLab 3500 enjoyed a good, long life. I've had mine for over 17 years and had been considering replacing it with a 35. The alternative would be to replace it with another beolab(s) and a core, but then the cost it getting up there without the benefit of the display of the 35.

We have swapped out a few BL3500 with the BS35. It was an easy update for the client and it’s a modern twist of the BL3500. We use the bracket from STB which takes all of 20 minutes to do. It is a good convenient all in one solution for sure.

What did you think of the sound of the 35 compared with the 3500?

I have a 3500 and have listened to a 35 in the store a few times.  The 35 is definitely an improvement to my ears.  A bit "livelier" with "punchier" bass (I always thought the 3500 was quite "laid back"), but, to me, not worth the cost of upgrade... especially since I still have a ML system so I would be gaining (integrated streaming) as well as losing features (CD, radio) in the trade.

Thanks for the description! I would tend to agree with you about not being worth the price delta especially if I already had a 3500 and a ML setup. Once I finished my link setup I find myself rarely using my Beolit 15 but I did a lot until I finished the ML. Often for link rooms a bit laid back is not a bad thing I think, but I wish I had the opportunity to hear both. For me ML does what I need/want fine.

Doesn't that describe an awful lot of B&O products lately? I thought the fact it could be a link speaker or a stand alone was a good idea, and it "looked" B&O, aluminum and interesting shape. Ah well.

I had held off on buying a 35 thinking that it might soon be updated with Google Assistant like the BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2. I guess not.

Has anyone heard of any product coming to replace it in the product portfolio?

So very true about the lack of promotion on products lately. For example, the Celestial and Palatial Speakers. Also, the Terrestrial outdoor speakers. They're not even on the website. There STILL is no mention of the BeoLiving Intelligence on the website or the BeoIntegration site. The BeoIntegration site has been completely stagnant for probably about a year now.

Oh no!

It's been discontinued 😱

I really love the 35.  I never had the space for one.  I did think of one once, in my dining room instead of the A9.

As nice as the 35 was, and i liked it, I think the A9 is in another league style and performance wise. It's perhaps the one thing of the "post modern" B&O of late that I can wholeheartedly say is a stunning piece of design.

How do you think a wall-mounted A9 might perform as a replacement for the 3500 for a bathroom speaker? While there is always the concern of moisture, my BeoLab 3500 speakers have held up well as bathroom speakers for over 17 years.

I really don't have any experience with either in a bathroom sadly, so can't really comment. If you have room to mount an A9 I think it would look wonderful, and the sound will be better, but have no idea as to resistance to humidity and such.

Actually the ONLY speaker that I could fit into one small bath, shower stall only no tub, would be a 3500, so it's nice to hear it's lasted for you. Not sure I would use it enough to make it worth it though, as I'm only in and out for a quick shower, not to luxuriate in a bath.

Can‘t imagine how big a bathroom could be that it gets too big for the M5 (soundwise)? Easy placement and no stress.

People with bathrooms big enough for an A9 usually also have more bathrooms.

Maybe the M5 could fit into the smallest of these 😉

Depending on how much flat space there is for sitting a speaker that might have an impact, if there's no wall mount bracket for the M5. I know in my bathrooms flat space to sit things on is at a premium.

Fair point. As much as MM‘s. :) Btw: I always liked the BS35 for its shape and the display built in.

Well, at least partially due to the wife. Big Smile My needs are smaller and can fit in a drawer easily. But, also due to the house. I live in an early 1960s mid-century modern house designed not only before large bathrooms were a thing, but also the designer deliberately kept them (and the kids bedrooms) small and used the room saved to make the main areas larger and more open. When I'm in the bathrooms I wish they were bigger, however when I'm in the big living areas I find I agree with his decision completely. Cool

Hi Jeff

It is a step up in sound quality but not a sonic improvement that makes you go wow. I actually prefer the look of the 35 and I really like the detail of the side profile. I would never put an active speaker in a bathroom, live mains and water don’t mix plus the steam will erode the PCB’s over time. We use celestial’s in the bathrooms and these come supplied with a lifetime warranty.

Thanks! That makes sense, better but not Wow! There are limitations to what can be done in that small a cabinet. I think, form factor wise, the 3500 and 35 were ideally suited to many places where a larger or more traditional layout speaker (like the BL2000s) wouldn't work well. I have a couple of BL2000s and quite like them, I have them in places where they sit on a piece of furniture and make a nice master link version of a small micro system setup. Too bad the 35 is going away.

I thought the 35 was suitable for people as an alternative to the A9 where you couldn’t see the title of the station or track you are on, and didn’t want to use an pad / phone for selecting music.

Hi Michael

The 35 is suitable to replace any BS with or without screen, because it’s the last* “modern” BS able to display what’s playing.

I bought mine to replace a dying Ouverture...

I ordered one of the last today. My dealer said that there are now less than 20 in the natural aluminum. More are available in the brass.
