I have just purchased a vintage beogram 1800 turntable from the 1980's which is in excellent condition. I am attempting to connect it to a beolab 3000 (large clamper ) purchased new in 2005. The connection on the 1800 is a 5 pin din which I put into the 7 pin din socket in the 3000. I selected the a tape which shows on the led panel however it only plays quietly with volume well up the scale. Are these models incompatible ? Can I get this to work ? Or do I need some other piece of equipment like a pre amp. Anyone have advice
thankyou from brand new member regards Ringadingy
Beolab 3000 should be Beosound 3000. I don't see any "tape" button on my Beosound keyboard but "Aux". I think your Beogram needs a RIAA pre-amp. It's a not too expensive unit that has to be connected between your Beogram and Beosound.

Thanks that was fast you are right it's beosound and its aux that's on the display. Where should i try to get the RIAA
You're from Australia right? Let's wait for other members here who might know where to get the best deal in your area (if there are any).
Hello again
I am from Scotland. I live on the Isle of Mull. Thanks for your help and advice.
Wrong guess then Try Ebay or Google search and look if the RIAA has both Din and Cinch plugs available.
Hi thanks again been on eBay new one available with leads for 49.99. Does that sound like a fair deal?
That's quite expensive. This one cost in Holland 28 euro (23GBP) without leads. The DIN to DIN lead you need cost about 5 euro?
Seems OK. However I would have a look at this - A little more expensive but has the correct cables - Steve is a sponsor of Beoworld and is highly recommended. I have bought from him myself and was very pleased with the result. RIAAs do vary in price - you can pay less and you can pay a lot more!!

Forgot all about Steve, thought he is only in cables? A bit more as Peter says and quality guaranteed!
Go for Steves preamp, plug it in and it works, no hassle with converter plugs or cables.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Thanks guys looks like I will go for Steves he comes highly recommended and Soren I would like to plug in and Go!
will let you know how I get on
