«Note that, in order to control the BeoLab 50’s with the BeoRemote 1, two things must initially be configured. Firstly, the infra-red receiver (also known as an “IR Eye”) must be correctly connected to the Master BeoLab 50. Secondly, the BeoRemote 1 must be set to the “BeoSound” product on its display. In addition, the BeoLab 50 must be “paired” to the BeoSound product (since there are multiple BeoSound options).»

but how do you pair Remote1 with BL50?

As far as I know you can ignore this pairing statement in the manual.

What is meant is that you have to select the right BeoSound product on the BR1.

Just try the first one. That should work.

At least it worked for me.

But I do not have a BR1 anymore. I volume control my BL50 now via the Essence remote in IR mode or via the app.

I would be very interested to hear how you did that? I have a spare IR receiver. Believe it is wired correctly (??). However, what IR mode do you put the Essence remote into? Ive tried to the the Essence Remote into IR mode but nothing seems to happen? What is the range of use in the IR Remote? On/Off/Volume or more?

As far as I know there are multiple types of IR eyes from B&O. You need to have the right one. And connect the wires correctly.

The Essence remote is set into mode 1 (BeoRemote One IR for use with BeoSound) mode.

I use the remote at approx 4 meters from the eye.

I can do volume up, volume down, and mute.

The mute does not stop the source. It just mutes the sound.

I am trying to connect an ir eye to my 50s but am having no success. The first one I tried is one I have been using with my Essence MK2, that has labels on it for join etc,  and works with a Beo 4.  The second one I tried is the type with no labels. Neither works. I think the second plain eye is the correct one? Perhaps I connected the cable to incorrectly? And thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you. That is a different wiring plan than the one I followed. One I followed was same three terminals, also with two grounds on the first terminal, but different colors were indicated. I will rewire and try again.
