Hi All,
in April I bought an Avant 55 TV and I was so proud and happy. But after only a view month, while watching a movie, the screen went on an off black but the sound remained on. My B&O franchise picked the TV up and returned it after 2 weeks with the comment, Nothing happened when they let the tv run for 1 week. I told them that I tried all the different TV options, like cable, apple, DVD or Disk and in each the same result, screen on an off but sound on. Now, after they brought my TV bach and told me that they couldn't see any problem, already on the first evening same problem occured. Now I documented it with my camera and could show them. They suggested, that maybe the accessory of my setup, like Disc etc. might be the reason as they only tested the sole TV in their workshop. So I removed step by step any of those, but the problem remained. Now they will pick it up again.
This is very disappointing with such a high value TV. Does anyone had same experience?
Hi
Sorry to hear about your unusual behaviour of your Avant and weird that they could not replicate the issue. Sometimes it makes you think that they don't fully replicate your situation when testing.
In answer to your question, my avant doesn't have that same issue.
Have you tried a software update? Are you using the latest software? Sometimes this can iron out any bugs that are around.
It does sound like the picture is being muted- this could be a power saving technique?
Other TV's such as my sony has a proximity sensor whereby the picture turns off
When i listen to music, what happens with my Avant is the picture goes black and then you can still hear the sound, so maybe it's applying these settings to your TV sources
Lets check a few settings
Under Menu > Power Saving > Standby > Auto Standby - is this turned off?
Under Menu > Power Saving > Picture > Powersaving - is this off?
I'm sure its something along those lines.
Let me know what you find out :-)

Radiomekaniker:Hi If you press menu while the error is there and the menu also disappears there is a fault in your tv and it need to be fixed. Try to check if the backlight remains on when the picture disappear- (the screen is not completely black if the backlight is on).

Had this problem (black pic with sound, no onscreen menu, backlight was on) on my Avant 75first it appeared sometimes but it got worse; I got a new display - now its fine;It should be exchanged within guarantee

This problem sounds very similar to our situation. We got our Avant 55 at the beginning of last year and after a period of about 6 months the image of the TV disappeared, came back, disappeared and came back. Sometimes I saw this sequence a few times after each other!
First thought was to the output of my media player. It happened mostly while we used the media player. But switching to a standard digital TV channel got the same events. On the other hand: I found out that the image was 'playing', only the back light fall off. Conclusion: the configuration was not the problem.
During the summer months (!) we got the event more and more. And it appeared ONLY when there was a lot of sunlight coming into our living room. So, finally my second conclusion was that the electronics that control the intensity of the back light as a function of the intensity of surrounding daylight was the problem.
Because of the difficulty of the problem, not repeatable on a desired moment, our dealer replaced our Avant. Last news about from the dealer is that he recently saw the same event in his showroom and that he could address and solve the problem by replacing some electronics.
I have had the same problem about 6 times now. B&O are on the case, but As it's an intermittent issue, difficult to remedy. Will keep you posted.
This problem also sounds very similar to our situation. We got our Avant 55 at the end of 2014 and two months ago the image of the TV disappeared and came back a lot of times in the day and not in a specific time.
Sometimes when we open the TV, sometimes after one or two ours and sometimes after all day use, you never know when it will happen and for how many times it will be.
We send the tv to the B & O service and the official answer was that the problem is in the monitor and it has to be replaced.
As we are not in the guarantee period they asked 2.000 euro.....?
We currently have the exact same problem which appears to be a known problem.
We were told by B&O to change hdmi cable sky box dish etc which we did to no avail!!!
We ourselves narrowed it down to a light issue by putting a cloth over the light sensor and the picture stayed on.
Contacted B&O who want £2000 to replace the monitor!!
This is a known problem and a very expensive tv it should last more than 3.5 years!!!
No customer care whatsoever I pay to correct their defective product??? They are supposed to be a quality brand and the price reflects this you expect something in return.
Any feed back would be welcome?
