Hi
Just bought my first B&O and was told by the dealer to get Creation app for my iPad to control it remotely. However, the app just doesn't 'see' the Beosound which is connected to my router via powerlink networking whlst the iPad is connected via wireless Apple Airport Express.
I have just bought a Beolit 12 speaker as well and the dealer again informed me that it would be possible to stream/airplay music from the Beosound to the Beolit. My attempts at trying to get him to explain how this can be achieved have so far borne no fruit.
Please help!
Many thanks
Graham
Hi Graham,
welcome to the BeoWorld!
Your experience with this dealer certainly is no good start into B&O.
And I hope you will meet a more skilled/interested/coatumerfriendly one next time you 'shop for B&O'.
In the meantime - before trying to answer your questions - you must write a bit more of how your home network is set up?
You have mentioned "a router" and a "AirPort Express" - are these set up as one network with the router (including wifi) as 'boss'?
Everything (including the iPad) has to be on the same network!
You must have some kind of (DLNA) server software on the network to make this work.
Is your 'BeoSound 5' the BS5 with the BM5 or is it a BeoSound 5 Encore?
In case it is a BS5/BM5, this server already is included on the BM5 harddrive.
But it has to be activated in the menu on the BS5 - otherwise you won't see it in the Creation App.
What are you trying to stream - which fileformat?
What do you mean by "connected via powerlink networking"? You probably mean a 'network cable/cat5 (or 6) cable'!
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Yes, the aftersales has been poor to be honest.
I have BT homehub 3 connected to an airport extreme which then connects wirelessly to an airport express in the lounge where the beosound 5 is located.
The beosound connects via powerline network to the BT homehub. ( two adapters which allow you to home network over the mains powerlines without any extra cat 5 cable) I have an itunes library on a PC which is connected directly to the BT homehub and that library is visible and playable from the BS5 and via .File format would be itunes and mp3
It is not the Encore, I have the BM5 black box on the floor. Ihave read the creation manual where it says that the BS5 must be in music server mode, but when I go to this part of the enu system the option to set as music server isn't there.
I'm not sure if I have just one network? The BT homehub box is configured to act as a wireless AP as well as the Apple boxes at present, but they all connect back to the BT box which accesses the internet. I have the Remote app on my iPad which can see the itunes library on the PC and airplay to the Beolit 12.
Hope I have made some sense - many thanks for your time!
When I play music on the beosound, the BeoMaster appears on the screen of the Creation app on the iPad and shows the current track playing, but when I select the yellow music button on the Creation App, I get 'No content available'
Have to return to your questions tomorrow - it is time to sleep, where I live!
Seems that you have two networks running - to which one is the iPad and the BeoLit (wirelessly) connected?
As for the settings of the BS/BM5 - have a look at the manual avaible on the Bang & Olufsen website.
These settings definitely are there, if you have keept the BS/BM5 updated.
The BM5 has been able to act like a server for the last couple of years!
Many thanks Millemissen. I seem to have solved the first problem and the Creation app is now controlling the BS5! Looked in the manual on the B&o website and found how to activate advanced menus, put it into music server mode and now it works!! Amazing!
Second part of my question was if it's possible to stream/send music from the BS5 to the Beolit 12 speaker? I can airplay spotify to it, but is it possible to have this speaker (as long as it's within wirelss network range of course) playing the same music as the BS5?
Best wishes
If I understand your last question right, the answer is no!
You can 'draw' on the files/the DLNA server on the BM5 to play to any DLNA compatible component.
You can use AirPlay to play the files - just map the BM5 drive - from your mac (with iTunes/AirFoil...) to multiple AirPlay receivers (e.g. two or more BeoLit12's)
You can let the Creation app play the content from the BM5 and via AirPlay listen to it on the BeoLit12 - but you can't send it to multiple receivers (the BS5 and the BeoLit12) from there.
The only possibility to let the BS/BM5 receive AirPlay is to connect a AirPort Express via a 'USB analog to digital dongle' - see the userguide page 23.
Does creation 5 work with Beosound Encore as well? or is it only for BM?
