I have inherited my Australian parents 1980s B&O stereo system which is amazing, but I live in the US.
My mum gave it to my dad for his 50th b’day. It is very precious to me!
Can anyone help me with the power conversion? Is it too dangerous to try using a power converter?
I have researched taking it to a service repair store to get it all converted to 110v but the quotes are in excess of $1000.
If it is safe to use a power converter, what is the best brand or model for this type of equipment? There is so much online and I have no idea what to buy. I have the following suite components:
1. Tuner: Beomaster Type 2901 (110v or 220/240 v). I was able to switch this from 220v to 110v on the back of the tuner.
2. CD Player: Beograd CDX 5125 (240v, 50-60 Hz)
3. Tape Deck: Beocord 2400 (240v, 50 Hz)
4. Record Player: Beograd 2402 (180-265v, 50-60 Hz)
Please help me get this old system up and running again. Thank you so much for any help or suggestions!!
2 and 4 a skilled tech guy should be able to rewire.Refer to the respective servicemanuals and remember to change the fuses to some with the correct rating (usually apprx twice the amp rating of the 220V rating).
3 will run 20% to fast on 60Hz. This will not be easy to correct since it is using an AC motor. I suggest you find a US-spec'ed model instead.

Thanks very much Martin!
