I am working on a way to use airplay 2 from my Apple TV 4 with my speakers without turning the TV on.
My idea is to connect it like this:
I already have most on the components shown on the sketch except the HDMI audio extractor.
There are two use scenarios:
1) Music via airplay: TV is turned off. audio from apple TV is extracted from HDMI and going through powerlink switch to speakers.
2) Video from Apple TV: TV is turned on. Video and audio is passed through to the TV and audio is going from the TV through the powerlink switch to the speakers.
My question is mostly regarding scenario 2, because i have a hard time figuring out the different terms used for these HDMI audio extractors. will it actually work like I wan't it to? Are there something I have to look out for? As I can see some extractors will only work for HDMI ARC
I fully understand the desire for a 'one device' (or even one button) music initiation process, and the setup that you describe seems sensible.
The audio extractor that I use is definitely NOT taking the sound from the ARC (I know this because there can be no ARC along the DVI/HMDI lead to my BV6!) I use one of these to extract the audio from my ATV4 before then feeding the signal to my BV: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NAJ4UM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I can't imagine that switching off the TV (in your setup) would send any message to the audio converter that would then effect its audio output.
And from what I read about the Almando switch, as long as you ensure that the TV's Powerlink connection is its 'preferred/prioritised' input (INPUT 1?) then you shouldn't experience any conflicts.
I’ll check that later with one of my other TVs
@madskp
Are you using a Beo4 or a BeoRemote One for controlling the V1?
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
madskp: But do you know if the sound is also transported through the HDMI port to the TV as i would like to use the built in speaker when watching video content from the ATV

I just did a test with my Sony TV, and yes it is. I had the ATV4 sound concurrently (and in sync) from the TV and the A2 Active (connected to the audio extractor's 3.5mm output).
Yes that's the one. I think it was the cables giving the problem though. Since then the Apple remote has worked fine to control the volume of the BV6-26, so it is clearly sending B&O compatible remote signals.
I did get a second ATV4, and I use it with another of the same audio extractors - this one with my BV6-23. In answer to your question in the other thread, it wouldn't control the B&O volume out of the box, and despite trying numerous options, cables, etc I can't get the volume control to work with B&O like the first one! I think the problem is the firmware of the Apple remote: The working one is at 0x0257, and the non-B&O compatible one is at 0x0118. There's a procedure on the net to try and 'force' an Apple TV Remote firmware update but I couldn't get it to work, despite endless hours of trying!
What firmware is your ATV remote at?
madskp:I am using a Beo4.
So, here is what I would do!
Get an older ATV (version 3) and get an optical to coax converter like this:
https://www.av-cables.dk/coaxial-digital-converter/optisk-digital-til-coaxial-digital-converter.html
Don’t forget the cables in the right length.
Connect the converter to the ATV after you have configured that for your network.....remember this is just for airplaying sound.
Connect the coax cable to the coax input on the V1.
Then configure this source to a Speakers Group for 2.0 sound/your BeoLab 4’s R/L and with Musik as the default Sound Mode/Lydtype.
From now on - when you AirPlay to the ATV - the sound settings will be the right ones for music listening.
Only drawback here is, that you will have to add and use P.Mute, when you have started the playback.
P.S. The reason why I asked for your remote was, that - with a BROne you could use one of the My Buttons to include this last step in the chain.
By the way - this is how I use my Chromecast Audio dongle exactly that way on my V1.
For the ATV, that you already have, you should make a default Speakers Group, that includes the speakers of the tv = Left-Center-Center-Right (means a 3.0 group.
And the default Sound Mode there should be Movies or maybe Adaptive.
This will give you the easiest handling of what you want to do.
No need to involve an extractor and the PL Switch.....the ATV3 can be bought for little money (maybe you have one).
Hope this helps - feel free to ask for more.
Millemissen: Only drawback here is, that you will have to add and use P.Mute, when you have started the playback.
The other drawback is that there will be an extra button push, on the Beo4, to turn on the TV. Madskp's plan should just need airplay to be started.

It would be one button only with a BROne.
But now he is free to choose, what he will find best.
P.S.
I am certain, that even the BL4’s will sound better, when set up the way, I suggested ;-)

I think I explained myself badly above! What I meant is that with madskp's solution, for music he doesn't need to pick up a B&O remote at all!

madskp: Of course it is also nice to minimize the number of boxes in the setup

I gave up on that aspiration a while back - here's the back of my BV6-26 ...
madskp: Mine is at 0x0257. I think Will update the other thread with that information

Many thanks - and if you find a way to update the remote's firmware (not that you need to) please let me know!
This procedure is mentioned often on the net: https://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/03/01/how-to-update-siri-remote-firmware/
... but the menu setup is not longer like that - the Apple remote no longer appears in the 'Bluetooth' menu section but is listed separately. I have tried everything that I can think of to get it to update, even switching the remotes between my two ATVs.
madskp:Thank you very much for testing this at least now i know this one will do the job
I have just noticed a potential problem with your proposed setup, at least if you use the same audio extractor as me. The analogue audio output is a fixed volume and cannot be changed from the airplaying device (eg iPhone volume controls). I am not sure how you will control volume.

Thanks for the heads up. Seems as this works with just the HDMI cable between the ATV and the TV it will be a point to pay attention to
