Hello

New member today.
Bought my first B&O setup ever yesterday.

Ended up with a Beocenter 9500 and Beolab Penta Mk1.
Connected the system when i got home yesterday and i love it so far.

Everything not working:

1. CD drive is not working. CD cover works fine and the cd spins up. Then the 9500 goes into standby. I've read on the old forums that this could be because of a bad capacitor. So i've ordered spares for changing this out.

2. Cassette deck is not working. All the rubber belts are rotten. I've ordered new ones.

3. All the foam surronds on the mid range speakers are gone. I've ordered new ones.

4. On of the bass driver on the right penta is blown. It makes distortion and it's also not moving freely, so i guess the voice coil is stuck to the magnet.

5. The fabric on the front panel have seen better days. So should be replaced.

6. Locking mechanism on the amplifier on the left speaker is not working. Ordered a new locking mechanism.

So over to my questions:

1. The system is connected with 5-pin din speaker link. I guess powerlink would be better. Is there anywhere that still sell adapters for this?

2. Will i benefit from re-caping both the 9500 and pentas?

3. Is the bass driver fixable or should i just source a used one? Anywhere to get one in europe? All i can find are from ebay us. I live in Norway, so shipping will be expensive.

Thanks for feedback.

Hi Alex

The Speaker Link cables are 4-pin DIN, and connect to the BC9500’s Speaker 1 amplified output.

You’re right, Powerlink would likely be better. Steve at Sounds Heavenly (this site’s sponsor) should be able to sell you some Powerlink to RCA jack cables in the length you need.

uptdate: So everything is great.

Ordered re-cap kit for crossover & amplifiers from Dillen. All this is sorted and every works as intended.
Amplifiers needed the kit since several capacitors was in really bad shape.

Also changed out surrounds for all the midrange speakers.

Beocenter 9500 is now working. Tape deck is working fine after changing the belts.
CD player had a defective cd-mainboard. Changed over the cd drive and board from a 8500 donor unit.

Waiting for a used bass driver from ebay and new belts fro both sliding doors.

Changing out speakers fabric tomorrow with new black fabric since the original is in bad shape.

Big thanks to Dillen for helpining me with the capacitor kits :)

I'm just blown away by how good a system manufactured in 1986 sounds. The speakers sound so much better after a lot of TLC.
