Hi all,

I am a dealer and we are about to fit a BV7 55" 3D variant for a customer.

They have a number of Region 1 DVDs and Blu Rays and are wondering if they will be able to play these through their new TV, as well as tke UK variants.

Has anyone had experience of using non-European DVD/Blu Ray discs in the latest BeoVision 7?

Thanks,

Michael

I am not sure but I would believe that the unit is region code protected and if it is not removed it will only play region free and discs made for the region in which they are purchased.

There are only three different bluray regions and from what I have read I understand that most discs are actually region free. According to wikipedia:

" Some current estimates suggest 70% of available Blu-ray Discs from the major studios are region-code-free and can therefore be played on any Blu-ray Disc player, in any region.

Movie studios have different region coding policies. Among major U.S. studios, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios have released all of their titles region-free.

Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. have released most of their titles region-free. Lions Gate Entertainment and Walt Disney Pictures have released a mix of region-free and region-coded titles. 20th Century Fox and MGM have released most of their titles region-coded".

Perhaps it is also possible to unlock the region fix on the player but I have no idea how to do so on the new blu-ray units.

BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

I am in the UK,and have a BV7-55 3D with an integrated Blu-Ray player.

I was advised by my dealer that it was locked to Region 2/B for DVD/Blu-Ray  playback.

Whilst it is true that more, and more,Blu-Ray discs are being issued 'Region Free',there are instances where a 'locked' Blu-Ray,or DVD,will be issued in the USA long before a European release, and so it is an advantage to have a player for Region 1/A discs.

I would suggest that you contact B & O to ascertain whether or not their integrated player can be unlocked.

Although the integrated player is excellent,I personally prefer to use a hardware modified multi region Oppo BDP-95EU Blu-Ray player as it provides much greater flexibility in set-up,and the firmware can be easily upgraded by the user.

A multi region Oppo BDP-93EU would be cheaper,than a 95,at £599.

Is it not possible to have B&O "unlock" the integrated blu-ray so it can play all regions?

Hi Terry,

I have the Oppo and bought an online hardware kit but have never been able to get it to work - did you fit the kit yourself?

Hi Martin,

I bought the 95 as soon as it was introduced into the UK,and I had the hardware kit fitted by the dealer prior to delivery.

From memory,at that time there were different boards available from 2 manufacturers, but one of the boards  was proving to be problematic.

I have never had a problem with the hardware kit that was fitted by the dealer who advised me that it was easy to fit if I wanted to install it myself

It might be worth you getting the dealer from whom you bought the kit to have a look at your player.

In what way is your kit not working?

Are you sure?

The only downloadable firmware I can see on B & O's website is for the integrated tuner module.

When the service engineer did a multiple firmware upgrade on my BV7-55 he advised me that the updates were provided specifically to service personnel, and the updates were made via the TV's Service Menu.

Yes, I'm sure.

Although you can't download the update files from B&O website, you have to connect the BV 7 to the internet via LAN cable. Then with no DVD/Bluray inside press MENU and 8. There you will find the option for updating the bluray player.

While DVD region can be unlocked on BV 7 TVs, BR can't. However, you can chose the region (A, B or C) you want. Your dealer needs to perform a firmware update to do that. The only alternative is to buy an external region free BR player (you can find some on the web).

One thing I've noticed is that US BRD are much less region locked than European BRD for some reason: 2/3 of the US BRD are region free or A and B, while 90% of the EUR BRD are locked to region B. Therefore a good choice would be to have a region B BRD player if you watch both.

Hi all,

Many thanks for all your input, this is hugely appreciated and very helpful. Smile

In particular the DVD being able to be region free is a huge sigh of relief for us (and the customer!)

Also interesting to find that Blu Ray discs are often region free. Surely 'region specific' discs are a thing of the past with Internet Shopping so widely available???

Once again, many thanks for all your help.

Change DVD/BR region code by user easyly....?
