Hey ! I'm a french student and i just purchased one of my dream turntable. A Beogram 1203 !

I have changed the belt but the auto arm isn't working properly. I have the service manual but it's in pdf and blurry when you zoom in si i can't do much.

My problems are :

- turntable is slow to get to the right speed even with a New belt.

- when i plug the turntable, it starts spinning immediately and i have to guide the arm to the center of the platter to stop it from spinning.

- the arm doesnt lift enough to go on the record so it's getting blocked on the side of the platter.

- the arm, when i lift it up enough with my finger, don't places itself at the start of 7" and 12" records but randomly on the midlle.

When i press the Burton while running. Nothing happens.

- when it reached then end of a record, the arm go back to rest mode but does not lift enough and scratch the record.....

I've opened the turntable. What do i need to do ? At least tell me what screws i need to adjust so i'll try that !

Thanks a lot

Get a decent servicemanual. Yes, it may cost a little, but it will then be readable, and you may even be able to sell it on, when you don't need it anymore.

Motor bearings need fresh oil infused into the pores (correct oil and vacuum).
The need for a complete mechanical overhaul should come as no surprise after 45 years.

- when i plug the turntable, it starts spinning immediately and i have to guide the arm to the center of the platter to stop it from spinning.

This is normal, if you just had the deck upside down. If not don't choose the ON position.

- the arm doesnt lift enough to go on the record so it's getting blocked on the side of the platter.

Perhaps a missing lifting rod inside. Let's see photos.

- the arm, when i lift it up enough with my finger, don't places itself at the start of 7" and 12" records but randomly on the midlle.

Which record size have you selected?
