Hello,

Does anyone know which software version the BV Eclipse has?

Over time has it been upgraded / upgradeable to the latest WebOS?

Thanks

MH

Surprisingly, the Eclipse is on 3.6 of the LG software. Up until the most recent LG software update - which if I recall is now at 4.8 - I was not at all concerned, as despite numerous interim updates, there was nothing of any real consequence.

However, this latest LG update does address a security issue and thats where I draw the line. B&O have a consumer responsibility in these scenarios to prioritise an update or should be sending notifications to their customers to unplug their systems from their networks.

This is the problem with these so called 'Smart' TVs. They are now fully fledged computer systems that are continuously connected to the web with immense software stacks.

The best advice I can give is that all these Smart TVs are flawed and its best from all fronts; security, privacy and picture performance to use an Apple TV to consume Netflix, Amazon and the rest.

I love me Eclipse. It's the best B&O TV ever in my opinion (and I've had a few over the past 20+ years,) but its been clear for nearly a decade that you have to be a software company for almost everything in this day and age.

Just out of curiosity... What is the security issue and what is at stake?
(serious question... no intent to be a troll)

LG have never been updating their WebOS,

And you are not missing anything anyway.

Use Apple TV for smart TV, much better.

Thank you all for your replies

So its 3.x for WebOS; and

05.80.55 for Sound Centre

@ emil, yeah I was thinking that it would be better with an ATV, etc - that's what I would go with

Was interested only cos my Sony A1 had a major update between versions of Android, and not just a .x minor release, so wasn't sure if LG follow the same cadence, appreciating that they are very different OS

No, it's 3.60.30 for the screen (where LG has contributed) and 2.7.37196 for the Sound Center. The latter software is most certainly B&O specific.

Concerning the screen part, is it difficult to conclude that the version numbers of the Eclipse WebOS must match those of a stock LG C7 TV as it is a customized version. But clearly, all enhancements concerning image processing and supported codecs should be added.

About the risk of having the TV accessed from outside the local Wifi network, one must ensure that the IP address of the Eclipse is not visible from outside (firewall ?). If a pirate knows its IP address, it is possible to control the TV remotely and change the settings.

Regards,

Jean
