Bought a V1 a while ago and is happy with it. Have one problem that annoys me. Bought James bond 50 anniversary blu-ray set with all 22 movies. When watching some of them I notice lag where sound is missing and the pictures plays in slow motion. Not the whole movie but in some part of them. Very annoying. I had my PS3 since 2007, but have not played blu-ray before buying the V1.
Wondering what could be the fault? I have tried different settings on both the V1 and PS3 and nothing has helped. Could a better HDMI cable help? Anyone who has similar experiences?

I would take those discs and test them on someone else's BluRay, or even go to a dealer and involve them in the problem solving -- would let you test the discs on their OPPO

Hi Hubbe,
Sounds like a problem with the Sony Blu-Ray player / PS3 as though it's not reading the discs properly. Speaking from experience, five years is a long time for a SONY player to keep working - could be a laser reading problem. Hopefully the guys with a PS3 like Flappo will be able to shine some light on this
PS - The James Bond set sounds great!!!

I had something similar with my old PS3. Answer? Sold the PS3 cheap and bought another - new one is fine. They are incredibly cheap these days. Remember the "Blu-ray" component of the PS3 simply uses the same component that reads you PS3 games. They don't last forever.
2007 is a long time. That's 5 years of use. 6 years if you bought it early 2007. Not sure what people expect, but not sure how annoyed I'd get after something like a £250 PS3 lasted me nearly 6 years!

That thought has crossed my mind that it could be a problem with the laser reading. But when playing DVD movies there has never been any problems. The problem with lag started with me playing blu-ray movies after buying the V1. There are no scratches or fingerprints on the blu-rays. I think it´s either a problem with the PS3 itself or something how its set up. But I can´t exclude the V1 either. Since there has been reports about lag when playing games I was thinking maybe it could be something with the V1s software. I have searched the internet and read that other peoples has had problems with lag on the PS3 when playing blu-rays. Usually the problems has had something to do with the tv´s and/or PS3´s settings.
Damn, this is a weird one as I'd read that Blu-Ray were not as sensitive as DVDs, so if the player is playing DVDs fine hmmm. As Elephant points out, please try the discs at your B&O dealership - on a V1 would be a great idea. I know many B&O dealers have used PS3s in the past as Blu-Ray demonstrators so maybe your dealer will have one to try.
To me the Oppo range seems very very expensive for a physical media format. I'd be a bit wary of spending/recommending as much as that for a format with a very limited shelf life in it.

On the other hand, I suspect the physics of a BR disc are far more demanding than a DVD disc, so whilst a mis-aligned system might process the DVD without difficulty it may be going through error recovery and attempts to retry the read than the system slows down -- which seems to be your issue.
So whether it is age, or dirt, or whatever, I think the PS3 needs refurbishment or replacement.

There seems that there are no reported problems with lag playing blu-ray on the V1 using a PS3 except me. That is a good thing, which means that the probably cause of the lag is the PS3. I have tried one of the blu-ray movies on another blu-ray player. It was connected to a BV10. Could not replicate the fault.
Wonder if they do refurbishment on the older PS3 still. I kind of like the old ones. On the other hand if I could get my hands on the previous slim model that could be an option. The latest one just looks and feels cheep. Another option is to buy a dedicated blu-ray player and keep the PS3 as it is. I can play games on it without problems. The new PS4 should be around the corner.
