First, I'm a lurker here. So many knowledgeable people, I really haven't had anything to offer. But I must say, for once, I do. So, for all those who have a BeoCom 1401 handset sitting around not working, here's my story.
My BeoCom 1401 handset stopped working. The keypad no longer functioned. I read on several posts the handset could not be opened, so I tossed that puppy into the closet and let it sit 'til I was no longer mad at it. I'm talking years here. Today I decided to pry it apart, it's no loss if I damage it, right? Well, I pried it open with a plastic putty knife, cleaned the keypad and board(my bad, I was a smoker when I used this phone), glued it back together and...TADA! Working! Yes, I can actually dial out now. Didn't even damage the exterior(thanks plastic putty knife) when prying it apart. Just thought someone may be interested to know what the interior of this thing looks like.
So for all you folks out there with a handset just sitting there like a rock, go ahead, get yourself a plastic putty knife and pry away. I'm glad I did!
Hopefully, my BeoCom 6000 doesn't get jealous now that I share my time with another BeoCom.
