Hi All,

I have a couple of questions for which I could not find any answers even after running an exhaustive search. Will very much appreciate your opinions.

1- what amplifier class is used in Beomaster 5500. The heat sink does not get warm when volume is low so I assumed it is definitely not Class A.

2- My BM 5500 automatically lowers the volume when I crank up too much and start hearing clipping. Is it really that smart to do that? any comments on that?

3- Do you see any issues in the choice of my speakers listed below? (they sound great but I wanted to make sure selecting these speakers for this amp has not been daft).

My amp is BM5500 speakers are klipsch r-15pm (50 W per channel connected to Speaker 1) and KEF Q15 (about 50W) connected to Speaker 2.

Cheers,

Arta

Hi Arta,

Re: 2

Check the Beoworld page for your Beomaster 5500.Bang & Olufsen's Automatic Power Handling Control system prevented overloading and distortion, regardless of how many speakers were connected. Up to 20 stations on the tuner could be pre-set.

1. what amplifier class is used in Beomaster 5500
- Class B

2. automatically lowers the volume when I crank up too much and start hearing clipping. Is it really that smart to do that?
- Why not? It's to prevent burning your tweeters from the high amount of harmonics when distorting.
It's your tweters - you decide if it's smart.

3. I am not familiar with those speakers, but if they are all 4 Ohms it may not be good to use two pairs.
