Hi,

I am thinking about buying a pair of BeoVox C75. I like the design (aluminium + black covers) but I don't know what to use them for really. But it could be a funny project. I have done refoaming before and I think I could manage it on these too.

I didn't know that the bass speakers was mounted flat in the C75 until today, and I wonder if this is a disadvantage over the CX100´s. I also wonder about the isolation material in them and the fact that they have a port on the back (while CX100 does not). I am a bit afraid it could be a hazardous material that by this age is beginning to break down and could blow out of the port into my room. They stopped production of them in 1983 so they are at least 31 years old.

If I understand correctly the C75 uses logline and cx100 uniphase. Might the sound be even better in the C75´s or should I try to get a pair of CX100 instead? Or just leave the project all together?

I would say that the C75 is actually the better sounding but despite the CX100 being incredibly simple by comparison, the differences are surprisingly small.

Interesting to hear. In what way would you say they sound better?

It is all very subjective when it comes to speakers but the C75 sounds sweeter and less sharp than the CX100 to me. When you take one apart and look at the differences the C75 must have been much more expensive to make. A bit like the Beogram 4000 and DC 4002. Huge differences in internals but end result much the same!

I agree.
Beovox CX100 may be the better of the two when it comes to specs and figures on paper but
I find their sound wearing on the ears.
I too prefer the sound from the older speakers.
For its size the Beovox 1702 is an exceptionally good speaker, if you ask me, and only slightly larger than the C/CX-range.
In my repairshop, where things are often left to play for hours and hours, I use a pair
for the same reason.

The other small speaker that surprised me was the S22. As with the 1702, fairly low power handling but as long as you are not planning to use them for a party, lovely sound.

Martin can correct me on this but I think the C75 used different more expensive drive units than the CX100.

I agree with Martin and Peter and I would add: Beovox 2200 For me the best "small" vintage B&O speakers.

I have never had a pair of those but they look very similar to a pair of B&W DM10s that I have had for years except for the cone tweeter. Small face but deep body! I have heard good reports though like all these early speakers, the power handling is not that of the later models. My earliest speakers are Beovox 5000s Mk 3s but they need some work as they are not as good sounding as the ones I have heard at Frede's .

I have both C75 and CX100, and the drivers of the C75s were a lot more expensive to replace. From memory around twice as expensive. And I do like the sound of the C75s too

Thank you guys for the input! I'll try to get the speakers. I have been using new rings from audiofriends before. I think their rings are foam too to give as much of the original sound back as possible. Any thoughts on that?
