I recently had a BS9000 transported by to me road ( approx 3000km)When it arrived, the CD player is no longer functioning. It plays the first CD ok, however when it moves it GRINDS & SCRAPES It then misses the next CD by 2cm.Tries the next CD, then it shuts down.Has anyone else experienced similar ?Is this going to bee a major or minor repair ?? My local B&O service centre is closed for summer., so i am sitting here doing my head in over it.

Hi.
That could be many things, from minor adjustment to more important fix needed, and assuming the 4 CD adjustment knobs are adjusted right.
Can you pay close attention to what seem to scratch, for example by removing all the discs and testing each position. If the noise stops its maybe just the clamper height adjustment which is easy if you're a little handy.
Let's start with this for now.
matador, I have removed the CD's, and the grinding & scraping noise has stopped !I selected CD 2 position and it moved to that normally.I selected CD 3 position and it moved to that normally.I selected CD 4 position, it moved to it, but missed it a little. I selected CD 5 position, it moved to it, stopped with a LOUD BANG, and immediately shut down. When parked in CD1 position, I selected CD 6 position, it moved perfectly down towards CD 6, but when it reached CD 5 position, it stopped with a LOUD BANG, and immediately shut down.
I cannot see what it hits when it stops.
Ok,
Then It "may" be just the clamper. But something seems to happen around position 5.
Have a look at the clamper, from the side of the unit. It must be parallel to the glass and the main alu panel. Not pointing downward, nor upward.
Then try to watch, from the the open side of the glass if the loud bang comme from the surface or from the "deep" inside of the unit.
Inspect the unit for sign of torsion or something misplaced around that position.
The clamper is parallel to the glass and aluminium face. Aprox 4mm away from the aluminium. The sound comes from deep. It hits VERY hard, and can be felt in the cabinet it sits on.I have found what it is hitting on !!On the left hand track that the clamper slides down, at CD 6 position, there is a loose piece of plastic in the track. As the clamper slides down, it hits this piece. This piece is loose, i can move it with the ruler in photo 2I have posted photos herehttps://www.dropbox.com/s/5l5rc91pxfsgg0p/01.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/pjc24htxiiqks7y/02.jpg?dl=0
This piece also fell out of the box when i unpacked it. I assume it is related ??? https://www.dropbox.com/s/olgvl92dq9lpdsz/tab.jpg
Can't see where the tab come from.
As for the piece stucked in the middle of the rail, there is a plastic cover in the middle of the unit on the rails, on the side close to the commands.
Check it is still in place. If it don't you can try to carefully remove it and put it back in place. Maybe the tab also come from that part and explain the fact it dont stay in place. Mine as that part lost and it dont prevent the unit to work and is also totally invisible from the outside.
You are right !! My cover is not there !Now i have to work out how to pull it apart, to remove the loose cover
I see from your pictures that there are some parts broken. I don't know about that.
For the functionality of the BeoSound 9000 then maybe what I have written below can help you.
Have you adjusted the two screws on the back to fit the right placement option?
When the CD mechanism is over the the two holes then you can see the screws.
I would place the BeoSound 9000 on a table for testing to see if everything works. In this placement option the arrow on the screws need to face down. By down I mean in position 'd'.
Clean everything really well because a BeoSound 9000 that seem to be broken might not be broken after all. Some problems go away after a good cleaning.
If the cover get there without dismantling the unit it can get out the same way.
It may take time but you should figure out how to taking it out little by little.
Take care because they is a very sensitive part underneath, the ribbon wires that connect the playhead and you dont want to bend, twist or damage them.
If the part move with the rule, you shall move it slowly to the center and pull it out.
If it dont work you'll indeed need to dismantle the unit starting with the easiest part, the black plastic part.but as long as you can avoid it, it's better to have patience, a good pair of thin pliers and maybe lift a little the top plate.
Good luck.
Matador.Good advice. Thank you.I will try that today.ChampbeoThe first thing that i checked. !
MatadorI have removed the little cover !The CDs now work in positions 1-4 5 & 6 are not working. The CD pauses, and eventually shuts down. The sledge then scrapes all the way up as it returns to 1( ....but doesnt scrape when its playing 1 -4 ) Strange !Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
Now I don't know what to say.
All I can advice would be to run test mode 71 and 73 to recalibrate the unit as if you had service it maybe, but nothing more i can think to.And even that, I dont think it would solve the scraping noise which should come from something physical.
How do i run test mode 71 & 73 ?I will do another physical inspection for the noise
Extract of the service manual you should try to get.
Test mode activating (by Beo4)
Wait 20 - 30 sec. after connecting to mains. Since BeoSound 9000 is in option 0 if Power Link speakers are not connected, the option has to be changed to 1. Option 1 can be obtained by short-circuiting pins 2 and 4 on the Power Link sockets. See Brief operation guide for further information, if necessary. By means of remote control from St.by (can only be done if the product is not in option 0) : Press SHIFT 9 0 2 5 8 with no more than 2 sec. between the individual entering. The remote control has to be in RADIO or CD option. In test modes the tuner is fully functional and may overwrite the display but the TM will continue. Select CD to view CD test modes.
Deactivating test mode (by Beo4)
Press • and the display shows “TESTMODE OFF” or disconnect from mains.
TM71
Mechanical test of finger protection, sledge and led. CDs must be loaded in positions 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 but no CD in position 1, (the position nearest the LOAD button). The CD must be stopped and the lid must be shut when the test is activated.
The following sequence is executed:
- End stop is found, the sledge runs slowly. This tests sledge tacho, sledge motor, calibration of the end stop switch.
- Lid opens and closes. This tests optocoupler for glass lid.
- Test of finger protection circuit.
- The sledge runs the longest possible distance slowly once, then quickly twice. This tests the sledge tacho for phase errors between quad 1 and quad 2 (the finger protection circuit is cut out during the test). When the sledge is running it must run “properly”.
- The lid opens.
- Autocalibration of CD positions. This tests calibration, disc detector, sledge motor, sledge tacho, clamper motor, clamper optocoupler, and jaws. The clamper is noise-optimized during the autocalibration.
- The sledge runs to the original position, i.e. the sledge position prior to activation of sledge test. When error in CD test mode the Error-number refers to TM27 CD-errors.
TM73
Adjustment of autopositioning. Test mode 71 must have been executed.
- Press SHIFT 9 0 2 5 8
- Open the lid and load a CD. - The sledge must be placed in the position where the CD is loaded.
- Press 7 3
- If the test is OK the display will show: APS ADJUSTED.
- If an error has occurred during the test, the applicable error code can be seen during a test mode 27.

Indeed, Unfortunately it's most of the time not possible to solve (audible) mechanical issues caused by transport by using these testmodes. These are meant to use after repair, cleaning, whatever. But not to cover or hide the culpritt which should be fixed first.
Try by opening the glassdoor whether the sledge moves without any problems to the 5th of 6th position and starts playing. If it shuts off during moving the sledge with a closed door, then dust or dirt might cause fautly readings at one or more sensors. During transport the BS9000 has to endure lots of vibrations.
