Question for beolab 5 owners: when you turn off the speakers do the red light stay on or does it go off? I’m asking because for many years I had the speakers always displaying a red indicator light when turned off.

However recently after one of the speakers was repaired it’s indicator red light goes off after few seconds of being turned off. So now I have one with with red light and the other without when they are turned off. What is it that causes different behavior when turned off? Any thoughts should be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Maabb,

Perhaps the repairer upgraded the BL5’s firmware.

At some point B&O changed the behaviour of their red stand-by lights to save power when left in stand-by mode. My BL5s are from 2014 and they exhibited that trait from purchase, so the transition was at least that long ago.

Thanks. I didn’t know it was even possible an update. Is that a process I could do myself or does it have to be done by a technician?

I have MK2 and you can not update them more so the stand-by lamp switch off.

But if they change chassi, then you can update to the latest software.

That’s exactly what they did to the repaired speaker. the one with the older chassis however makes an audible hiss each time is turned on. The hiss goes down mostly as it goes, but if it dies in the near future I will probably replace the chassis once more because I still think they are worth it. But I wonder until when is reasonable to expect B&O providing replacement chassis...
