I have had a lovely Beogram 4004 in my basement for the past four or five years. The previous owner discarded it and I found it complete with a nice stylus. However, since my main deck is a BG4000 I didn’t prioritise the 4004. However, yesterday I brought it up to my apartment for a service check. So, the first thing that I checked was the damper. It was almost stuck, so no wonder the arm would not lower. I unsoldered the solenoid and took the damper apart. This will take five minutes, I foolishly thought. I cleaned the piston and the chamber of the damper and lubricated them and here is where the frustrations started. The damn piston will not go into the chamber. It will go approx 5 mm in and then is stuck. It was also unusually tight when I carefully pulled it apart. Any tips if I maybe could file down the edges of the piston?
