Beomaster 5500 headphone output

When using the headphone output on the front of my Beomaster 5500 the sound is not muted through my speakers which defeats the point of using headphones. Surely the wired-in speakers should be muted as soon as a pair of headphones is plugged in. What am I doing wrong please?

Perhaps the speakers are plugged into the 'Speaker 2' sockets, which are not muted by the headphones.
