I woke up this morning to see an announcement on facebook that B&O will be bringing back the Beogram 4000 in an updated form!

I didn't see that one coming. Is it a hoax, or is it real?
I tried to provide a link but it went into moderation. Here is the text:
MEMORIES RE-MADE BY BANG & OLUFSEN
Must be a hoax, as nice as the thought of a new turntable is.
The announcement is on B&O's official facebook page. So I'm hoping this might be real.
I have indeed seen this announcement on both FB and Twitter. Something is coming up, and it looks suspiciously like a new turntable: "we are updating one of our most iconic products for contemporary use, while maintaining the integrity and timeless spirit at its core". The visual used is BG 4000. Answer between September 3rd and 5th... Let us stay tuned then!
But if somebody has some details already now, he/she should feel free to share :-)
Current: Beovision Eclipse 65" v1 - Beolab 50 - Beolab 28 - 2 x BS2 (GVA) - 1 x BS1 (GVA) - Beoremote Halo - H9i
Past:
Beovision MX4000 - Beovision 3-32 - Beovision 7-55
Beosound 9000 - Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5
Beolab 6000 - Beolab 8000 - Beolab 5 - Beolab 3 - Beolab 17
Double post - Apologies
I can't believe it!

Don't get too excited :) Bang & Olufsen is running a pilot project that aims to preserve, refurbish, and reimagine some of the company’s most iconic heritage products. The first release will be the Beogram 4000 series with the goal of updating the turntable to a contemporary product, while retaining the original design intent. Join us at 3 Days of Design and learn how we are updating one of Bang & Olufsen’s most iconic products for contemporary use, while maintaining the integrity and timeless spirit at its core: to share timeless experiences for future generations and the memories they make.
Ah ok...thought it couldn't be a new turntable. Talk about dangling a carrot!!
I think this still could mean a new turntable in future
My suggestions, for the consideration of the design team:
- Make the cartridge backwards compatible, so it also fits the old Beograms like 4500 or 5500.(it would be really nice if quality of new replacement cartridges matches that of the old MMC2 and MMC1)
- I suppose a reimagined Beogram would need a decent A/D converter, to connect it to current B&O gear. But don't forget a good analog output please.
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
I hope this is the first of the "B&O Classics" programme announced in the last annual report.
However, I am getting excited! I WANT ONE!
B&O, please go ahead with this idea, B&O Classics as the "Singer" (Porsche enthusiasts know who this is..) of the AV industry.
Speaking of Porsche, the will launch more cars this year with the heritage badge & package, picking up design & colors from the past.

A new B&O turntable is something I’ve dreamt about. A BG 4000 will cost thousands.

But who is going to manufacture the cartridge(s)?

Ortofon? Soundsmith?
chartz: Ortofon? Soundsmith?
My brain wants the possibility to use any cartridge, but my heart says it would be too ugly. Designing a custom cartridge would probably very expensive and most certainly limit the choices that the user kan make.
Maybe Ortofon could deliver a solution based on their OM and 2M series? If so, a stylish custom housing can be made while the styli (ie the expensive part) would be the standard Ortofon OM styli. SInce the different styli in the OM series are interchangeable (see https://www.ortofon.com/om-series-p-550 ) this solution would offer a selection of cartridges.
Razlaw:Some more information. Using Google translate it seems this is a new product. It says the new edition will launch later this year. https://mobilsiden.dk/nyheder/musik-eboeger-podcast/bo-genopliver-beogram-4000-pladespilleren/

It's not a Beogram 4000 in those photos...

There is an article on hifishark.com shedding a bit more light on this re-make.

The project therefore seems to be along the lines of what SME are doing to Garrard 301s - namely, buying old ones up and completely refurbishing them using re-manufactured parts where possible.
I do have concerns regarding the cartridge and connectivity though - I'm not a huge fan of the SoundSmith versions and the idea of a BG4000 with a Bluetooth transmitter is just wrong!!
Looking forward to this. If they build and price it right I am sure they could sell sheds loads of them.

Of course there are things that can be improved, and the Beogram 4000 certainly does have its weak points.
But making a Beogram better than the 4000-series of course includes ensuring that it still will be fully useable, connectable, compatible and of course also fully repairable 50 years into the future. - Just like its predecessor was (and still is!).
That'll be year 2070.- At least.
Needless to say this rules out mask-programmed stuff, most digital content and generally all current interface technology, Bluetooth and the likes, none of which will be around in just 20-30 years from now. If that long.
It would be a shame to downgrade hundreds of Beogram 4000s to be that useless so soon.In that case the least they can do is make the rebuild reversible.
Excited to see, what they can come up with.

Nothing new to be seen in that video. And it's still not a Beogram 4000.
An original BG4000 would be my favorite to redesign. Love the big square aluminium control plate with the 2 rectangular pieces aside It could use a new design for the power supply, control and as extra feature a tacho control with the help of the bottom layer of the platter. Most BG4002 and up have wearings on the (start)buttons.
But I don't know from which are sold more, the BG4000 or the BG4002 with its simplified design.
