Hi everyone,

I am new here and hope this is the right forum to post in. My grandparents gave me their old B&O setup, which has been sitting on the shelf for a while:

- Beocenter 9500
- 2x Beovox CX100
- Beolink 5000

While everything is kind of working, there are a few things that have to be fixed. I really want to treat this awesome setup nicely and hope to get some advice from you:

Beovox CX100:

The foam surrounding the actual speaker is partially torn due to aging, I have already ordered replacement parts. Once they are glued in the speakes should be fine again.

Beocenter 9500:

The device is in really good shape, no scratches or broken glass. However the sliding lid of the CD-deck sometimes gets stuck while opening or closing. I guess I have to disassemle the gliding mechanism, clean and regrease and maybe change the belt?
The cassette-lid is moving without any problems, however my grandparents told me they never really used it - that might be the reason.

Next question in this matter: When pressing the Power-Button (red LED far right) of the system ist shuts of and then makes a whirring sound coming from the CD player. Is this normal behaviour or do I risk damaging something if I continue using the system?

While all buttons work some require a considerable amount of pressure to trigger, others react if only touched barely - is this a common issue?
For example the Power switch reacts very well, the volume buttons have to be pressed more firmly.

I have also noticed while cleaning that the top glass panel isnt glued in properly anymore and can be slighty lifted. There also is a small plastic part in the center of the front that is pushed inside due to the bad glue...I will provide pictures later. I have very thin double sided foam tape designed for installing screens of smartphones, do you think I can use that to re-glue the glass parts?

Beolink 5000:

I do not know any remote control that feels as high-quality as the Beolink. Although my grandparents never really used this particular device, the display came off and lost contact with the connector in the remote control...seems to be a very common problem.
I did some research, but apparently there is no way to fix a bad connector cable? I will add pictures later, but the conductor lines ("wires") look really bad.

In the worst case: can I use the remote control without the screen working? E.g. just for adjusting the volume.

Thank you all!

Hi and welcome to Beoworld!

Firstly to say that the BC9500 is well worth looking after - it's a great piece of kit and I have been using mine daily for the last 12 years after purchasing second hand from Lifestyle.

To answer your questions:

Beovox:  I presume that you are replacing the speaker foam, as foam rot is a common fault on these and the smaller CX50s.  I have no experience of re-foaming speakers (I simply replaced the drivers in my CX50s, but these are no longer available as spares), but there are other threads on this and other forums about speaker refoaming, so take care and I am sure you will be fine.

Beocenter:  If you haven't already done so, it's worth getting hold of the service manual.  If you upgrade your membership it's available on this site, albeit in 5 separate pdfs!  I used a pdf combiner to join them once downloaded.  My mother in laws' BC9500 has a similar CD door fault - I have tried cleaning the runners but to no avail so my next plan is to replace the door drive belt.  Normally Dillen (on this site) is able to supply belts but he has none in stock until the Summer at the earliest, so you may have to take a bit of a risk and source from eBay.

I am not sure about the whirring sound - mine does this as well (for about 4 seconds) but otherwise works perfectly.  It has been mentioned in another thread recently - it may be the motor ensuring that the CD door is closed.

With regard to the lower touch panel - this is almost certainly due to the glass panel becoming unstuck from the supporting plastic trim (similar to the top panel).  Re-sticking the top and bottom panels should be your first priority, else they will fall and break when you put the Beocenter in the service position!  Each panel (top and bottom) has a small screw under the left hand edge.  Once undone, the panel should slide slightly to the right and come away upwards!  Be careful, and note the position of the plastic trims around the glass as these must be replaced in the same position!  I have re-glued several with superglue gel, but others have used tape as you suggest (smartphone screen tape sounds perfect, but just be very careful removing the old glue as you do not wish to scratch the black under-surface of the glass panels.

Beolink 5000:  This is a fine remote but unfortunately it is next to impossible to reconnect/repair the screen's ribbon connector.  It will work fine without the screen but you will not have access to some of the more advanced programming options such as setting up weekly timers.  You will however be able to select sources, adjust bass treble etc.

I hope that this is enough to be going on with - do have a search of other threads as suggested above - I will try to link a few of the more useful ones later.

I have tried to post a lengthy reply to this but it disappeared, perhaps to moderation!  If it doesn't appear soon I will re-post (as I saved a copy of the text Smile).

I just tried to re-post and it didn't work.  In the meantime, here are some threads related to the panels:

a whirring sound might be slipping door belt, unit ensures that doors are closed when powering off.

 blah-blah and photographs as needed

Hi everyone,

sorry for my late reply, but I was busy with other stuff...first of all huge thanks, especially to @guy! Really appreciated your effort to get that answer to me Smile

Just to give you all an quick update: I refoamed the CX100s without any probs! Hardest part was to remove the  disintegrated old foam...there were rubber ones available, however I decided to stick to the foam one.

For the Beocenter, I removed the lower glass panel - or actually simply lifting it up, as the glue was completely gone. Removing the old glue was a total disaster, just using my fingers and water was enough to scratch of the coating. Did only what was absolutely necessary and glued it back in place with double-sided sticky tape used for glueing phone screens onto the frame. I consequently decided to not touch the upper panel as there are no buttons...the lower ones work perfectly now btw! I also managed to get hold of a belt!

Now after I made some space in my room I managed to put the system on a shelf and wired it to my Technics SL turntable. Need to do some adjusting there..anyways I have a couple of questions left:

- Every time I start the Beocenter and touch "sound" the bass is put to minimum. Is that a factory setting? I checked the user manual but without success.

- There is a humming (electrical) noise comming from the area where the inputs are, above the tape deck.

- For above reason I used a plug with a switch, so I can shut of the device as it is also making the noise in standby. However when switching on the speakers will make a short cracking noise - is that in any way harmful? I do not know this behaviour from my other system

Thanks in advance once again!
