Ahoi -

I have inherited a B&O system (Beomaster 7000 +Phone + CD) with Beolab 8000 Powerlink speakers … and would like to pipe music into my existing Sonos system. I have acquired a Sonos Connect and a splitting connector for connecting it to the B&O.

The B&O plays nicely on the two Beolab 8000 speakers. I have setup the Sonos Connect, and it is visible from the Controller (both as a ‘room’ and as an audio source).

However, no matter what I do I cannot get the B&O output piped to Sonos.

Can anyone help me, please.

Brgds Ivan

I'm not familiar with Sonos, but it sounds like you need to get an output from one of the Tape Recorder sockets to the Line In on the Sonos - If on the Sonos they are RCA the a 5 pin din to RCA cable will do the trick if it is a 3.5mm jack then DIN to Jack. Steve should be able to help, But I am pretty sure the output will be from the Tape Recorder sockets - then select Line In on your sonos

Correct, and, paradoxically, the best way to make sure you've got it right is to always buy a DIN->RCA jack cable that does *both* input and output, i.e. has 4 RCA connectors and not just 2.  That way, even if the wiring is mixed up, all you need to do is swap the Red/Black pair with the Yellow/Green pair (typically) and you'll get the output signal.  Also a 4-connector cable will let you send the sound the *other* way, i.e. press "TAPE" (or TAPE2) to listen to what's playing on the Sonos system, which is the more typical use.  The fact that you called it a "splitter" cable makes me worry that maybe you bought something with two pairs of RCA jacks both connected to the same pins?  You want, as Andrew says, a Tape In/Out cable.  No special settings are required on your Beomaster 7000 -- whatever is playing is always sent to the tape recorder(s).

P.S.  Duh.  Sorry, the most obvious case that I forgot to mention is that the cable you currently have is a B&O *input* cable.  Easy to test: plug it into the output jacks of the Sonos Connect, not the Line-In jacks, and see if you can hear music sent to that Sonos Room on your B&O TAPE source.  Probably so -- as I said, that is (or was, prior to this phonograph craze) the more typical use!

Ahoi & Happy New Year -

Thank you for your answers; I'll try them out as soon as I can get the cable/s you suggest (my current cable is 8-pin, and the Tape port is 7-pin).

.My Sonos Connect also has a 'Link jack input' which I gather is needed to open the Connect to input (??).

Thank you for your advice - I'll let you know how the cookie crumbles.

Ivan, Steve@Sounds Heavenly has the cable you want. He’s a sponsor of this site, and many us use his services for our cable needs.

And let’s face it: if you use B&O gear, you’ll have a lot of cable needs. Stick out tongue

There is no such connection "Link jack input" on a Sonos Connect.  There are: TOSlink digital audio out, Coaxial digital audio out, Analog audio out(L/R), Analog audio in(L/R), AC power mains input, and Ethernet ports(2).  "Analog audio in" does what you described wanting, namely playing your B&O system distributed through the Sonos multiroom system (source=that room name / line-in).  "Analog audio out" does what most people want, namely playing the Sonos system into that room, and powering up the B&O system to listen to the Sonos.

Gents -

Feedback on your competent input:

I can now ‘play Sonos’ on the B&O speakers and ‘play B&O’ on the Sonos speakers. The surprisingly simple solution ended up being:

  • use the Tape socket on the B&O to connect to the Sonos Connect input (5 pin DIN → 4 RCA)
  • pipe the Sonos Connect output directly to line input on the B&O speakers.

Thank you! & brgds Ivan

Does that mean, that you don’t have the BL8000’s (PL-) connected to the Beosystem anymore?
