Hi all, any help on this problem appreciated:

I have a BeoLab 2 subwoofer and a pair of BeoLab 3’s connected to my Apple iMac. Everything has worked very well for years. But now, while the subwoofer behaves as normal when I turn it on via BM-Link (the light goes from green to red, the speaker works), both BeoLab 3 speakers have suddenly gone dead. The red/green light doesn’t come on with either of them.

The setup is a Beoport Beolink PC2 connected to the iMac via both a USB port and the headphone jack. A standard B&O cable runs from the Beolink PC2 to the BeoLab 2, and the BeoLab 3’s are connected to the BeoLab 2.

Has something happened to the BeoLab 2 that means the BeoLabs won’t power on? I tried plugging one of the BeoLab 3’s into another socket and the red light still doesn’t come on, but I don’t understand how both BeoLab 3’s could stop working at exactly the same time while the BeoLab continues to work?

Thanks,

S

Have you tried plugging one of the BL3s directly into the PC2?

Mind you, if neither Red or Green light on the BL3s come up it does sound like a power problem.  If in UK, have you checked the fuses in the mains plugs?

Hi Guy,

Thanks very much for the reply and your suggestions.

This evening I did try plugging one of the BL3's into the PC2, but as you say it is does appear to be a power problem.

I am in the UK and I just changed the fuses for both mains plugs for the BL3 speakers with no change.

The LED lights do not come on in either speaker. I don't understand why they'd both go at exactly the same time, the BeoLab 2 is fine.

I guess they need repairing, I'll look into it.

Seb

Yes sounds very strange - perhaps there was some sort of power surge in your mains supply that damaged them both at the same time.  Unusual though!

Although I have only used them for spares rather than repair, they have been very helpful so you may wish to try: https://www.avaservices.co.uk/

About once a year my BL2 stops sending the "on" signal to the BL8000s plugged into it.  If I unplug the BL2 for a few minutes and replug it, everything works normally.

I have no idea why this happens, and probably isn't the fix for your problem, but I wanted to mention it just in case it helped.

Hi laseralex, thanks very much for the suggestion. I gave that a go but no joy, I am going to get them seen to, thanks.
