Hello. I haven't used my system for a while, but wanted to start listening to some CDs again recently. And only the right hand speaker was working.
Having checked them both and done a limited amount of fiddling with the back of the speakers (my knowledge of these things is pretty much limited to plugging them in) it appears that they will both play if the switch is set to "right" but neither seems to play if set to "left". So I have either both speakers playing but not stereo, or only one speaker playing and it will be set to right anyway.
Is this a known issue - and if so, is it more likely to be the beomaster, or the speakers themselves?

Sorry to hear you're having troubles. Are you running 2 power link cables from the BM7000, one to each of the BL8000s, or do you have a splitter? If there's no splitter, try removing a re-inserting the cables at the BM7000. Also, try using headphones to see if you get both channels. If you have a splitter, try removing it and just go straight from the BM7000 to each speaker and see what happens.

HI. I'm running 2 cables one to each speaker. They have worked perfectly for a few years - since I bought the system. It's a new development. I shall try the headphone idea ...

Hi. I've now tried with headphones. Only one side working. So I assume the problem is in the beomaster?

seems like it could be. Have you tried all sources including radio to see if any are working? Also, try with the headphones (without wearing them) and raise and lower the volume a few times.
Another thing to try is unplugging from the mains and plugging back in.
If the unit has been out of use for some time,the internal memory back-up battery may be exhausted?
This can mean that the unit defaults to random settings,in particular,the balance control may be set all to one channel etc.
Try pressing the "sound" button on your remote control,to cycle through the options.When in "balance" option,there should be two zero's displayed to indicate balanced setting.If a number is displayed,you should be able to change the setting by pressing the volume key's as appropriate.
If this works,it will mean that you need to replace the internal memo battery,but in the meantime,leave the unit in standby.
Power interruption will wipe the memory again.

If neither speaker is playing the left channel, and both playing the right, then there is most likely nothing wrong with the speakers.
I have not yet seen a Beomaster 7000 with issue with the line-signal itself, but off course it can happen. Normally it is the speaker relay that goes bad, and then it requires some clicks on the MUTE button, or that volume is raised to "loud" before the sound is from both speakers.
But this is not the case with your BL8000, they are active, and runs without the relay, so it must be the line signal.
And you have verified that the balance of the beomaster is not set all the way to the right ?
Press sound on the BL1000 2 times, this gives you the balance menu where vol up/down changes the balance to the left or right. Make sure it is in the middle.

I was to slow with my post regarding the balance ;)
Thank you all for taking the time to help. I have followed advice and it was the balance - pressing sound twice then altering the volume until 2 "0"s showed was the answer. It is all sounding great again - thank you all so very much. ("Money" from Cabaret sounds excellent!).
So now I need a new internal memo battery. Presumably not something I can do myself so I shall find a repairer. I think I know of one in East Sussex.

You can try to go into sound again, and then make your preferred changes for Startup volume/balance/bass/treble/loudness. Loudness is turned on/off also with vol up/down. And then press Store 2 times.
This saves the values, and then disconnect power to the master, and see if the values are stored. Maybe it was just a fluke and saving all values will make it great again :)
If not, then yes, you need to change the battery.
