Our Beosound 1 is about 15 years old. The CD player will only open and close, not play. It appears that this might be a laser diode issue? Does anyone know where we can get this repaired? We are near Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. Thanks
Hi,
the laser is worn out and should be replaced.
Ask your dealer, if the parts are still deliverable.
Lasermodules from bangood or from ebay do not work in most cases, but you can give them a try, they are cheap.
The latest beosound 1 could play CDRW, many replacement laser dont work with CDRW. They use different laserdiodes, because Hitachi does not produce any more diodes. Youshould have a VAU255/21drive (LF= lead free)
The lasermodule for that drive is hard to find, other B&O CD Players uses simple 12.4 lasers from Philips, which are easier to find.
They CD unit is PIN Compatible with many other units from Philips or B&O, a CD unit from Beosound 3000 would fit. So if you get a complete refurbished unit, this is an option (e.g.Philips CD-PRO)
Mr. Schnepel from justtone offers refurbished units for B&O, he has laserunits on stock as well.
But it is in Germany.

these lasers are fairly reliable.only links on the circuit break down.very carefully with the correct fine solder tool can be quickly repaired.
+ clean laser lens
at least in 8 out of 10 cases I fix it
if..and if it is these type of laser head!
OK. Many thanks. Even if I screw it up, I will still have a radio. Regards
Hi all,
After having a similiar issue and looking for a solution I found this thread. I do have exact this laser as marexy posted it but after looking at the laser assembly I´m wondering which solder points do you mean exactly? I mean some of them can be accessed very easily. Do I need to disassemble the laser even more as shown at the link from marexy?
Thank you!
paging marexy !
