Hi all Beoworlders.

I have a strange sound coming from one of my BL5 when playing loudly the track "never ever land" with Infected mushroom.

It is really hard to locate the dissonance, but my other beolab do not have this sound. I should mention that it is a very demanding track for the speaker. But I still want to find a solution.

Anyone has some kind of advice?

Maybe I just pushed them slightly above their limit.

Around 15Hz and loud volume can break even the best.

Dude, you have to be pushing some really low end at high volumes to even approach the Lab 5's limits! Especially as it should protect itself.

Thank you Jeff for your reply.

Yeah that is a bit strange, but I bought them used one year ago in good condition but one amp was dead. So I bought a new one and It works perfectly. Its not that one that has the dissonance sound. Maybe the bass speaker need a replacement.

I will do some more tests.

Did a test sweep 20-20khz at high volume. No problems what so ever. The speaker is behaving normally without distorsion.

Maybe it is the flor that begin to sound strange.

Just a thought, are you sure it's not in the music itself? Could be a bad bass speaker, could be a cabinet leak, could be the floor or wall, sometimes it's a bear to track these things down, especially if it's a low freq noise. Makes me wonder as you did the freq sweep with no issues.

Don't you just love intermittent and odd noises like this? Huh?

Thank you all for your help.

I have located the noise from the upper bass. But i do not think it is the driver itself. Perhaps it needs to tighten/ new foam behind it. It sounds mechanical. But the driver feels fine and do not sound strange when playing test tones between 200-400 Hz.

 Unsure

Oh i forgot, I tried the song in my sennheiser headphones to make sure it is not the track itself. I also changed the switch on the speaker so it played the same channel as my right BL5.

Your screws on the upper bass driver are backing out. Open it up and screw them back down and the noise will go away.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Thank you BeoMegaMan,

But i do not think it is that easy.  I already tried that and it did not help. I now thinking of take the speaker out and see what I can found.

Hi again,

Just want to update you all. Yesterday I found the issue. It is the grill that begins to make this noises. So today I will see what I can do to make it more tight when reassemble.

Thank you all.

I hadn't considered that but it makes sense. I've never seen how the grills are made so don't know what would rattle but that's a lot nicer problem than something with the mechanics or electronics. Betting you're happy to have found the problem.

Greetings!

Sorry if i violate any law by hijacking this older thread. But i feel a new one makes less sense.

I've made the same experience on noise from the high bass in conjunction with higher volumes. Years ago i measured how much DB i find pleasant when i hear loud. It was around 100-104 DB at the listening position, maybe 4 meters in front of the 5's.
At this output i get noise from one of the Beolab 5 covers initiated from the high bass driver. It first apeared to me with "Tool", "Lateralus", Track 11.

Slightly off topic:
There is also noise from one of the low bass driver when playing "King Crimson", "Construction of light" last track: ProjeKct X - Heaven And Earth.
At the end the bass "guitar" goes all the way down below to 20HZ. Maybe it's just the protection that engages. It sounds like clicking noise.

Has someone done anything against the high bass noise from the Beolab 5 covers and achieved something?

I need more Beolabs!

Hello, Can you please share how you fixed the problem? I have the same issue on one of my Beolab 5s and I also suspect that its the upper bass and the cabinet grill that is the issue. It's like a zinging sound when I play heavy bass music. Much appreciate any info.

Thank you, I had the same issue one of the speakers was making strange noise on heavy bass music when played loud. I took off the disks, then the cover and tightened the screws holding the aluminum grill in the back and that fixed the problem.
