We have not talk much about it, but the “under the hood” design of the M3 is quite intriguing (to me at least).

Indeed, the tweeter is at the bottom, and there is this protuberance on the top.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a BeoLab 8000 driver there!

The 'Eagles Beak' at the top must serve a purpose. I'm sure Geoff Martin will be able to explain.

Impressive sound for such a small cabinet - I picked one up in Denmark with a 25% discount.. might hardwire it in my en-suite bathroom on the wall bracket they have recently released.

The ”Eagle beak” is there to provide sound dispersion for sure.

Compared to the typical acoustic lens it looks like it diffuses the sound. What's the degrees of dispersion compared to the Beolit at 360 degrees?

25%... that’s nice!

What do you mean by hardwire? It doesn’t sport Ethernet.

The M3 has no internal battery. Is the power wire the one you mean?

Yes I meant run the power lead from an adjacent ‘service cupboard’ in my case.

I do believe however that it is possible to hardwire/Ethernet an M3 by using a USB-B micro to rj45 adapter cable. I will look into to this option if I discover drop outs or multi room problems. Given that we are still building the house and presently running cables I’m trying to cover all bases.

The M3 does not support wired internet. It does not help with adapter cable.

Understood Hjort, thanks. Never mind - my router will be located in a service cupboard, directly behind the bathroom wall where the M3 is placed so the wireless connection should be fine, otherwise I’ll replace it with a BS1.

I'm currently staring at this little thing for my kitchen and obviously would be more than happy with 25% discount if it might be !

But waiting for this and I do know it could be an stupid question : how does it sound against Beolab 4000's?

The point is my kitchen is semi open to the living room where the 4000's are. Far enough from the reach of the speakers at reasonable volume, but close enough to notice any minor difference when someone move just few steps. The M3 need to be just a small complement to the main system.

So Any insight about this would be great. Thank you.

Hi Brian,

If it helps, you can hard wire both the mains power lead and a 3.5mm Line input for audio - this way you can send through music from your main system without needing to have good wi-fi reception in the bathroom.

Please ask if you need any help with this option and I will be pleased to advise further.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

I have a similar setup already in use:
I bought the BeoPlay M3 as a multiroom speaker to extend the TV sound to the kitchen, no matter if the door to the living room is open or closed.
The TV is a BeoVision 11 with BeoLab 8002 as front speakers.
Mostly I listen to news, talk shows or documentaries, obviously voice-centric programmes.

Under these conditions voices sound much more boomy through the M3 compared to the main system.
But I have not tested every ToneTouch setting on the M3 yet, so maybe one can correct that to a certain extend.
Room position is set to corner to further reduce low frequencies.

Considering the price and ease of use (when TV is on: press button for join or standby, no app or remote needed) I am nevertheless satisfied with the M3.

Maybe you want to listen to the M3 at a dealer. I am sure he can link it to a set of BeoLab or BeoVision speakers to get near your BeoLab 4000 sound, playing your favourite source, of course.

Delay is no problem with my M3: I use the 30 ms setting on my underutilised 5 GHz WLAN, while the BeoVision 11 is on LAN.

Hi guys, I know this reply is 3 years after your post so you may well have sorted this now but I thought I would let you and everyone know that you CAN connect the M3 to ethernet.

There is a micro-USB connector inside the bottom flap. You can then connect this using a micro-USB to USB-A to an ethernet adaptor (Anker do a great one).

I then use TP-Link Powerline adapters around my house to deliver a signal.

I use Google Home throughout my house and this speaker is configured within a 'Room' in the Google Home setup so I can simply ask Google to play music to that device.

I also have it configured as part of a group of speakers to play throughout the entire house.

Works absolutely brilliantly.

I use a Velbon stand, design in Holland for the M3 speaker, that raises it to approx 1m off the ground.

It's awesome...
