Beolab 6000 - connect to multiple sources

Dear all,

I stumbled upon this forum on coincidence when browsing how to best set up my pair of Beolab 6000. I was amazed by the level of expert knowledge on display in many of the posts! However, this may have also triggered the fact that I could not find the answer to my problem - it might just be to basic.

I am completely new to the world of HiFi in general and B&O in particular: I inherited a pair of Beolab 6000 from an uncle, spent many hours on replacing the membrane, which was torn and I am now trying to set it up nicely in my room.

What I found out so far will sound very basic to you (but even here I am not completely sure I've figured it all out correctly): as the Beolab 6000 are active speakers, no further amplifier is needed to connect to them. What I have done in the past is connected them to an amplifier using the Power Amplifier (attenuated converter kit) from Steve from Sounds Heavenly. This obviously worked perfect, but I do not have access to an amplifier any more (I moved recently)  and in retrospect it sounds like the amplifier was not really needed.

What I am looking for now is some device to which I could connect multiple sources (TV, mobile phone, laptop, CD player, etc.) and the cables needed to connect this to the Beolabs (I believe I am using the original B&O cables so far).

Furthermore, I am thinking of adding an additional subwoofer to the whole setup in the future.

All of that obviously without sacrificing any of the sound of the Beolabs ;-).

Could you offer some help to a complete Newbie?

Hello hello, you could try using a line level switch - plug all your devices into a switch box and select whichever one you want the BL6000's to play.

(Multiple sources in, one single line out to a speaker. Daisy chain the BL's.)

A more comfortable is to buy any preamplifier that suits your taste. Connect all your sources to the preamp and the Beolab 6000s.

There are very basic preamplifiers that only have source buttons or knobs and more sophisticated with displays that allow renaming of the sources. That means that the display of the preamp wouldn't show "DVD" but "Laptop" instead.

The Beolab 11 is a good/best option.

First of all: Thanks a lot for your help!

Second, the trick with the preamplifier was a good one, I just did a quick search on ebay and found various ones which I could acquire (I would love to use some old technology with the whole system). Do you happen to have any particular brand which you would recommend?

Third, thanks also for the tip with the subwoofer. Is the Beolab 11 easily connectable to the Beolab 6000 via a B&O cable (once again, sorry for asking the obvious/dumb questions)?
