Hi,
I’m new on this forum and would like to thank you for all the contributions, I spent lot of hours reading post etc..
I’ve just acquired 4 speakers Beolab 4 (PL/PC) and a Yamaha MusicCast player (preamp mode)
Why Beolab 4, because the speakers are not too big, the power is enough for me and the kind of music I usually listen to. I like the style and the ceiling install is perfect for plan of using 4 speakers for a better room coverage. The Yamaha was chosen for preamp (variable line output), multi room and net features.
I now need to wire the 4 speakers and the player.
before buying the cable I made a test with standard rca stereo cable modified with two mono jack to plug in 2 speakers in line mode.
The problem is that when the Yamaha is on and no sound is sent (the volume is not at minimum or muted), the speaker is emiting a loud buzzing noise.
I’ve read something about this in the forum but was not able to understand what was the best wiring practice and if the noise was related to the line input or the beolab 4 in general
Is the noise problem also occurring when using RCA to PL plug ?
Last question : I’ve got 30 meters between source and speakers and I have cat5e Ethernet cable available, can I use this cable or must I buy stereo modulation cable ?
Thanks for your advice
Fabrice
Hi Fabrice,
Welcome to Beoworld!
Please keep the cable length shorter if possible, I recommend a maximum distance from the WXC-50 to the speakers of 10m for best results. This cable will give you great sound quality without any noise issues:-

I don't recommend using any kind of extender or modulation system, as this will cause noise problems.
Kind regards, Steve.

Hi steve
thanks for you answer, I need to wire 4 beolab speakers ( 2 for left and 2 for right ) should I use an rca splitter or a Mono jack splitter ?
let’s say that for each channel I’ve got 1 speaker ( 4/5 meters from the Yamaha) and the second one is 8 meters further sot the whole cable meters for 1 Line is around 13 meters
For best results please use an RCA splitter at the Yamaha to link the cables to both speakers on each side, I can add the splitters free on request if you go to my website for the cables.
If I use two rca splitters I have this kind of config
yamaha => 2 rca splitters (left and right) so 4 output left-1/left-2 and right-1/right-2 but my cable length for left-2/right-2 should be around 13 meters (you seem to supply max 10m)
What are the problems when length exceed 10m?
Please feel free to email me directly if you need more detailed advice. Sorry I can't offer this cable over 10m long at present due to staff shortages during the UK Covid lockdown.
