I have a BG9500 that when it attempts to play a record, the tonarm drops quickly and then proceeds to drag the needle across the record. When I lift the tonearm with my finger, it will stay up, and not return. The tonearm itself feels loose and not connected properly.
Can anyone offer any assistance? I do have a non-working BG3000 (motor out) I can use for parts or as an example of how it should be.
I have the repair manual, but am not sure where to begin - or how to remove the cover that is on the tonearm slide assembly.
Welcome to Beoworld !
Open the deck into service position. You are a silver member (thanks for your support!) so you can download theservice manual from our main website under products.
The carriage top cover is held by one or two small screws on the top and then lifts right off.

Great - thanks - that did the trick. I'll take a look a the tonearm adjustment section of the manual and see what I can find out.
Welcome and good luck!
We like pictures, and we like success stories. Keep us posted. If you get stuck, take pictures and describe what you've tried. Many folks will wander in and offer help.
I finally had a chance to sit down and look at the TT.
In the pictures you can see the tonearm seems to be just hanging on - not really connected to anything. The pictures show it lifted and lowered just by moving it with my hand. The last picture shows the underside where it looks like the blade bearing or whatever it's called is missing. I read about this in another posting regarding a BG5005.

As I mentioned, I have a BG3000 with a working tonearm. Is there a way to simply swap the needed part or the entire mechanism? I have opened up the BG3000, but I cannot remove the tonearm like I can on the BG9500. The service manual really doesn't get into this level that I can see.
The tonearm normally rests on a pointy tip.My guess is that this tip is broken here. You can swap the whole carriage with the working one from the donor deck.
Thank you - and I was successful in swapping the carriage! The thin cable that moves the carriage was a challenge, and the first time I had installed in wrong and it was causing some problems. A closer look at the service manual and diagrams set me on the right path.
Thanks for all the help! Now to connect it to the Beocenter 9500....
Success!
Well done and congratulations!
