I am new to the forum and and completely new to B&O kit (though not hi-fi in general) so please forgive me if I seem a bit clueless!
A friend of mine has inherited a B&O system from her late father, and I'm trying to help her get it going.
We are having problems with the Beogram 7000 turntable. When we put an LP on and press "play" the arm moves across and drops on to the record and starts to play normally, but the arm does not traverse the record. We have to quickly press lift to prevent damage to the stylus assembly.
I've removed the platter and sub-platter assembly to see if anything has come adrift underneath but I cant see anything obviously amiss. I can move the arm manually along the guide rods in both directions by applying gentle pressue on the arm housing but clearly the mechanism which should drive it is not working.
Any ideas what I should be looking out for?
The lubricant on the guide rods looks a bit dry, should I clean it off and reapply some fresh lube, and if so what should I use?
If all else fails, where can I send the Beogram to get it serviced?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Mike
