Replacing a B&O TV as a control point for multi-room audio system

Help appreciated - I’m out of ideas!

I have a B&O multi-room setup connected using masterlink cables. The source is a beosound 9000.

In the main entertainment room there are four speakers which were previously activated via a Beovision TV. I have since replaced this TV with a non B&O device with its own speaker. However without the TV sensor I can no longer activate the music system in this room. Other speakers on the setup are activated using the IR eye connection method. My hope was to replace the TV with an IR eye and accompanying black box (Beolink passive?) that allow the speakers to be independently activated.

The problem is that the two din plug cables that went into the tv don’t connect to the Beolink passive device. As these cables disappear into the wall this is all I have to play with without a major redecoration job. In other rooms the passive device  links to the speakers using the old two pin speaker cables. Can the Din plug cables be converted to the old style speaker cables perhaps?

Any ideas much appreciated!

David

Hi and welcome to Beoworld!

Two questions:

-  Is the Beosound 9000 in the same room that the TV was in? (i.e: the main entertainment room)

- Are the 2 din plug cables that you refer to connected to Beolab speakers (active B&O speakers) in the entertainment room?

Thanks Guy!

The Beosound 9000 is in the same room (worth mentioning that the cabling between devices is all hidden away in the walls in case that affects things)

The four speakers are Beolab 4000 so active I think. (Note: the four din plugs enter the room before being merged into two using adapters. These two din plugs were connected to the TV. )

Very Best,

Probably quite easy to solve.

Previously the 9000 must have been connected to the B&O-tv using a masterlink connections.

Since there is no tv there anymore, you will have to connect the 2 din connectors (which seems to be Powerlink connectors) to the 9000 instead.

(You might need longer cables or an extra cable plus a connector to connect to the excisting).

Assuming that the 9000 still has a Masterlink connection (which goes to the other rooms), you then can hear music (radio/cd) from the 9000 in the linked rooms as well as in the room with the 9000.

That is…..unless I have misunderstand your description or you did not describe the complete setup.

Or if the cables will not reach the BS9000, you could use a Beolink Active (not passive) with an IR eyey in place of the old B&O TV.  This would allow you to connect your non-B&O TV as an additional local source.

Great thanks!

As the cables are on the other side of the room to the BS9000 it might actually be easier to get hold of a Beolink Active (I had already bought a passive and an IR eye but had given up when that did not work.)

Can I just check - would you expect the Masterlink cable, the IR eye cable, and the two Din plugs (already using an adapter from 4 to 2) all to be plugged into the Beolink Active?

Much appreciated!

Thanks for the advice.  As the cables are all in the wall it's hard to work out what links to what.  I never would have thought to simply connect the din plugs back to the BS9000. Due to the location I think it might be best to try a Beolink active (guy's advice) but if that fails for any reason then it's good to know that extending this cables back to the source somehow  would work.

Much obliged!

A Beolink Active (which includes the ir-eye) will work in any case.

Done so the BS9000 will ‘fall back’ to A.Option 0 (since it has no own speakers connected) and you are controlling it via the ‘new’ BL Active like from the other rooms.

(In case you don’t know: Option 0 means that it won’t be open for the ir commands).

My guess is, that you would want to connect some kind of streaming device (Airplay/Chromecast/Sonos…..) to the Aux of the BS9000.

In that case some of the linked (including the one that you would need) might not accept that command - because the built-in firmware is too old).

Please read this thread for information on this:

https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/3454/31256.aspx

Whether the needed firmware chip will be available nowaday (in case it really is too old), I can’t say (maybe Guy knows).

There is a ‘workaround’….but unfortunately not when your BS9000 is in Option 0 (make information on this later, if needed).

Which speakers/Beolabs are in the main room? Could you move these or a pair of these?

Thanks,

I have ordered the Beolink active and also attached a new wifi streaming device (versus bluetooth) so the system can be accessed from anywhere.

Thanks!!

Good God, how do you know all this stuff? You have an encyclopaedic knowledge of B&O. B&O should employ you to be their Technical Support. You’re the exact opposite of their current support department which is slow, vague and often incorrect

Unfortunately I don't!  I just did a quick search and this is all I have regarding A.AUX compatibility of ML products:

BL Active has to be SW 1.5 or higher, as mentioned in MM’s link.  I don’t know of any upgrades, but you should be able to find a suitable late model BL Active second hand.

BL3500 needs SW 1.6.  But you may be able to find/fit a new processor – see this thread: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/20499.aspx

But I am not sure about the BL2000 as I can’t find any examples of it working with A.AUX.  Certainly older versions don’t.  See here: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/25002/199742.aspx#199742

The good news is that the whole system doesn't have to be compatible, only the product(s) in the room(s) where you want to access A.AUX.

^ Blimey, I posted that on Thursday and it’s only just been approved by the moderators! Frustrating!
