Hi Beoworlders,
Well worth checking out this B&O speaker review video from Andrew Robinson:

Interesting video - I like it that he asks his partner for her perspective (we can all get a bit carried away and it’s good to get an objective end user assessment!)
I wonder if his conclusion on the core would be different if he paired the 4000s with a B&O sub?Obviously that is another level of investment and one I’ve personally not been able to bring myself to - at least for now.
I share his surprise and disappointment that B&O don’t deign users worthy of tone, bass, loudness or balance controls on the core (yes I know this is for older speakers, and that balance controls have in fact now been added to the software). The same baffling decision was made on the BLC NL/ML. I sometimes think there must be a department at Struer devoted to making products almost but not quite perfect - that sprezzatura is a signature part of the B&O experience for me!
I feel sorry for these US beolovers.
What he has done, is basic stuff for us in the EU (and UK)….at least for the danes amongst us.
None the less - nice video, because he reaches a lot of viewers in the US and shows us that he has a real affection for B&O
As for the ‘missing’ tone control wheel, please do remember, that the Core was developed way before that came into play
Maybe they just haven’t had time for implementing that in the sw.
Personally I would care less….I use my (audio) products 1:1 - no need for dealing with tone wheels or other frequenzy boosters here.
I am more of a purist - but each to his own.
Maybe some day that wheel will come to the Core as well…..the more options the better.
(What he has forgotten to mention, is the option with the Core (as opposed to the streamer, he used instead) to run Beolink - but maybe he is only interested in AP2 for multiroom).
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hi MM - yes I agree to an extent- I too prefer to have a very flat EQ but I tend to listen at relatively low volume where a bass control or loudness setting is helpful to compensate for the human ear’s deficiency at interpreting low frequencies at low volume. Also a balance control is helpful if you have to compromise on speaker placement
my comments were not directed towards the halo - I have no use for one. Rather I was been (mildly) critical of the complete absence of sound adjustments on products like the BLC NL/ML converter- which does have at least some intended use cases similar to a BeoLink practice/passive (these are set out an described in the manual). It is very surprising that the user has no control in such cases.
Having said that, I’m really happy with my system overall
Basicly Loudness control and the Balance control is different to the intentions of the Tone control wheel….I use both of these.
I don’t see much hope for implementing ‘sound adjustment’ in the Converter.
The product is obsolete and hardly anyone (like myself) use that with attached speakers….although that was good thinking at that time.
Most of my listening is done via the speakers connected to my two (BSys4-based) tv’s….lots of options for sound adjustments there.
Something that Andrew Robinson really should test
