good evening, i am in the process of repairing a 3300 deck, i have no cartridge at this time, the problem i have is, it works up to when the arm travels to the record then just hovers there, is this because there is no cartridge fitted, any info/observations appreciated
Just move the arm to the left slightly as it would if it was being moved across the record by the stylus.
Regards Graham
hi graham, still nothing i can move the arm forward/,reverse with the buttons but it will not travel on its own , maybe a sensor or something, the deck is opened up at the moment due to repairs, regards barrie.

Then suspect the light sensitive resistor or the light bulb in the moving carriage, it forms part of the servo circuit, or a fault on the main board.
I have replaced several light sensitive resistors in my time so I would check that first.
It will not lower without a cartridge, It's a very delicate balance.Press play and wait for the tonearms to stop and hover.Push the tonearm gently towards the left - that is push the tonearm physically with a finger, don't use the buttons. If the carriage starts to move left, the tracking is working.
It will run to where the record has its leadout groove, return home and stop.
(The tonearm is the leftmost one).

Well picked up Martin, I hadn't twigged that OP may be only moving the arm with the buttons!!!
