I recently bought a used B&O RX2 turntable and when I received it the counterweight had come off the tonearm. The counterweight is threaded on a tube which was somehow attached to the rear of the arm. The rear of the arm has a narrower tube with two rubber pieces that fit in the tube threaded in the counterweight. It looks like the pieces need to be pretty well secured to one another so the counterweight can thread back and forth to adjust the stylus force. Does anybody know how the pieces are supposed to attach together? I can't tell from the service manual exploded view. Thanks!

Welcome to Beoworld.  I have owned an RX2 since new for over 20 years, plus another second hand one.  I also own a 4002 and two 3404's.  What you describe on your RX2 sounds very much like a problem I had with one of my 3404s.  The end part of the tonearm connects to the rest with that rubber piece.  You simply have to slide the tonearm onto the rubber.  It does take a bit of force to make it happen.  Just make sure you're securely holding the "front" of the tonearm with your left hand while you're pushing the counterweight onto the rubber with your right hand.

The photo below shows one of my 3404's as I received it second hand last year.  I had to move the "back" of the tonearm a good half an inch or more forward on the rubber.  I do not believe there is more to the attachment than just the tight fit and friction of the rubber inside the metal tubes.

Good luck.  Perhaps if you post a photograph or two of your problem you will get more help from others.

Thanks, Rich. Here's a photo of what I have. I can thread the counterweight on the tube easily enough. If I slip the tube over the rubber pieces on the end of the tonearm it's not a very tight fit and it won't stay secure if I try to turn the counterweight.

I'll take a look at my tables tonight, as well as my parts box, and see if I can figure it out.  I'll write again tonight.

All right.  I've got the parts in my Bitz Box. I see what you mean.

It looks like you need to put a bead of adhesive - we're talking a miniscule amount - on the plastic part on the tonearm (not the rubber end).  Then you would slide the tube onto the end of the tonearm and let the adhesive set.  Finally, thread the counterweight over the pin on the tube and onto the arm.

If you're the patient type, I'll be happy to give this repair a trial run on parts in my box and let you know how it turned out.

I was considering using a little bit of adhesive on it as well. Any recommendations for what kind of adhesive? Epoxy?

I put a drop of superglue on the plastic ring (where indicated with red arrow), slid the tube onto the tonearm as far as it would go, slowly spun the tube a few revolutions, wiped the excess superglue off the outside of the assembly, and let sit for a few minutes.

I let the superglue set about 10 minutes before adding the counterweight.  Had a bit of Coke from McDonald's and a few sips of bourbon (see background).

Lastly I "screwed" the counterweight back on.  The little pin on the tube actually fits inside a spiraling groove inside the counterweight.

The operation seems to have worked.

Now you will have to balance the tonearm.  That procedure is in the owner's manual.

As we always try to keep it original, I have some important questions, which brand is the bourbon, and why McD. coke.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

If I still had some around the house, I would have used a thicker cyanoacrylate hobby glue like this one.  Since I didn't, I just used the generic superglue I had (also a cyanoacrylate) which was very thin.

I don't think epoxy is the answer.  Too thick, and you only need a tiny bit.

1.  Makers Mark.

2.  The FS brought McD's home for dinner as she was late getting home and didn't want to cook.

3.  Always try to help when I can as others have helped me in the past.  That's what we do around here, right?

To keep it more genuine I would reccomend "Gammeldansk"

A long list...
