I have a Beocenter 2300 and would like to upgrade it to accept an internet radio module.
My system is connected to a Beolab 2000 speaker via a Beolink converter using the Aux connections. I have nothing connected to the Powerlink connections on the 2300 or the Beolink converter.
I would like to use the Aux on the 2300 to connect my radio and I have tried it and it works fine.
However, I would like to keep my Beolab 2000 unit running, if possible. Can I connect my Beolab 2000 unit via the power link?
If so is it necessary to alter any set up functions to do this?
Thanks for any help!
Hi kernowman,
Welcome to the Beoworld.
As far as I remember the BC2300 has no Tape-in - otherweise you could have used that.
The Aux is used for the connection to BL-converter.
You can not use the PL for the BL2000.
Updating to a "newer" BeoMaster would solve your problem. The BS3000/3200 or the Ouverture has MasterLink (for the BL2000) build in. Even an old BM 4500 would work - it has Aux-in and A-Tape-in.
They are quite cheap nowadays.
Sorry!
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
How about an AUX splitter? I found this at SoundsHeavenly:
http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-auxy.htm
I like this device from Soundsheavenly:
http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-switch4way.htm
Would it work for kernowman?
(The price seems very fair especially considering the flexibility provided for those of us with earlier BeoSound units.)
Surely a Aux-switch would work.
It would bring Netradio (or whatever) to the BC2300, but NOT to the BL2000.
How about an AUX Splitter?
Since Beolab 2000 uses OUT and the Internet Radio (via RCA to DIN) uses IN these might work at the same time.Or is Beolab 2000 using IN as well (for feedback?)?

Of cource the BL2000 uses both direction - otherweise you would not be able to start the sources of the BC2300.
I am quite sure that it is not possible. So sure that I would not even try it out - risking to damage anything.
I wonder if you - or kernowman - would
You are right! Why didn't I think of it this way?
Well...
So, best would be to sell the BC2300 + Converter and buy an Ouverture (for less money) or an BS3000 (for a little more)..

To get BC2300 working with BL2000 you need AUX out (PIN 3-5) and Datalink/Dataground and shield of course.
You can use AUX in of your BC2300 for an external source (PIN 1-4).
BC2300 should be set to A.OPT 0, BL2000 should be set to L.OPT 5 or 6.
Should be even possible to control external source ( third party product) using a Lintronic box TT455, connected to Datalink of your BL converter,
I`m not quite sure whether the mentioned AUX-splitter works in this installation, but Steve will know..
And I`m not quite sure, if your BL2000 will respond to A.AUX command (?). If it does not, A.TAPE should work.
We had several threads in this forum about this question, and there are some users who successfully installed their setups this way.
If you connect a TV to the Masterlink setup the AUXin will be used for TV sound distribution to your BC2300.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone forall their help. As a new user it has been invaluable advice.
While I'm on a roll can I get an explanation of what the powerlink connection on my Beocenter 2300 is for?
Thanks
Powerlink is a volume level controlled preamp out, that sends audio (analog stereo) to active speakers (Beolab). This is just an output.
You can also connect third party poweramps and - with limitations - to line level inputs of Beomasters (BS5 Encore to BM7000).
@Iano: I think BC2300 and MLGW simply are two different Beo-generations, especially if you have the early two-way model.
But maybe a sw update helps to make your system mlgw compatible.
You can download the compatibility list from:
mlgw.bang-olufsen.dk - /source/documents/

Stefan is right. It will work with Steve’s AUX splitter. The male plug goes in the 2300. The first female is used to connect to the convertor box (1611). The second female to connect any other source. The command A.AUX on the remote will open that source on 2300 and/or BL2000.
But only if ALL pins are connected 1 on 1. If that’s the case, I’m pretty sure the second picture is wrong as this is a PL MK2 cable and not a AUX Link cable. http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-auxy.htm
"Aux Input "Y" Splitter/Doubler Adapter
This product is a high quality audiophile cable to allow you to connect two input devices to a single Aux socket on your Bang and Olufsen hifi system. This cable will fit almost all B&O audio systems manufactured since 1990 (ie. those with a 7 pin Aux socket) - if you are in any doubt, please ask! This cable is especially useful when using the Aux socket for a Masterlink Convertor box, as it allows the connection of a portable music player or other input device without disturbing the connection to the convertor box.
Please note that this cable does not switch between the two inputs that are connected, so to listen to one input device, you will need to switch off the other connected device to avoid causing interference. In order for this cable to work correctly, we strongly recommend that at least one of the two devices to be connected should be battery powered, eg. an iPod or portable MP3 player. This prevents any mains hum being induced through the input socket. If you need to connect two mains powered devices, or if you want to connect more than two devices at once, please see our Aux Input Switching Kit, which allows up to four devices to the connected to one input socket at the same time."
From the description on Steve's site.
Feel free to experiment
Or ask Steve directly - I am sure he will give a quick answer. Just post the link of this thread.

There is no need to post smileys... Maybe I misread the first sentence.. I also said it will only work if all 7 pins are connected 1 on1. Hard to tell looking at a picture only.
The way I read the second sentence is to connect two different sources which has nothing to do with the convertor. Just a side note if the splitter is used for another purpose.
I will drop a message to Steve to chime in.

Hi DoubleU,
Yes, the Aux Splitter that I sell (http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/bando-auxy.htm) DOES have all 7 pins connected to allow music playing into one side of the Splitter to play out to the link room speakers when A.AUX is selected. I have set this up with a number of similar 2300 systems using a converter to add link room speakers and this works well.
You can add an extra music source via the splitter and access this in an link room (or the main room) by selecting A.AUX.
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.

Aux splitter cable ordered this morning from Sounds Heavenly, will post results.
Thanks again all!
Thanks kernowman,
Your cable is on its way! Let me know if you need any help getting everything set up once it arrives.
Thanks Steve for joining.
Just one more thing to discuss is the PL-MK2-cable you used. The pink (pin 8) is not used. The grey (pin 1) and yellow (pin 4) are used for AUX IN, but are not shielded. Probably not a big problem with such a short distance, but officially they should be shielded. As you stated on your site, you experienced problems with mains hum induced through the input socket when 2 devices are non-battery sources. Could that be the problem?
Yes, the Aux splitter uses the same cable layup as mk.2 Powerlink, but the centre wire (pink) is not connected when used in an Aux cable. The short length of the splitter (20cm) means that there are no problems with shielding on the grey and yellow audio out wires, as these have approx. 30-40% shield coverage from the adjacent audio ground wires on pins 2 and 7.
The reason that I suggest not using an Aux splitter to link two mains powered devices into a single Aux socket is not due to shielding, it is due to differences in ground potential that can occur when the outputs of two different mains-powered pre-amp circuits are linked together. This is not a problem when at least one of the items connected is battery powered (eg. an iPod), as this has a floating ground potential that will naturally rise to match the potential of the mains-powered device when connected.
In practice (although I always recommend the use of shielded cables where possible for unbalanced audio signals), 1-2 volt RMS line level signals can be transmitted over quite long distances (typically up to 10 metres) in most domestic environments without picking up noticeable levels of external radiated interference.
Hope this helps.
Crystal clear answer.
Thanks Steve!
I suppose that both the (from kernowman) wished for 'internet radio module' and the Beolink Converter are mains powered sources.
As far as I have understood what Steve wrote, this might be a problem?
If he would connect an iPhone/smarthone playing netradio there would be no problems?
But he asked for connecting a 'internet radio module'!
Hi Millemissen,
There is no need to worry, as this never seems to cause a problem when one of the two devices connected is a Beolink Converter. I suspect that this is because the converter is double-insulated (ie. no mains earth connected), hence the audio ground is not held at a fixed potential.
The issues only seem to occur in certain cases, with a few combinations of products. Good point though!
Cable received and connected and everything works beautifully.
Now have much better radio reception, thousands of channels and in my lounge and kitchen.
Thanks for helping me with this, one happy chappie!
Thanks for posting the result - nice to know that it is working.
In fact it is good news - since it makes it possible to create some setups that we weren't aware of before.
And thanks again to Steve.
