HHi just got my hands on a beovision 4-65 and have a beosystem 2 running it, I have 2 remotes with it and can get it to the OSD language screen but the remote won't let me navigate up down. By the looks of what I have seen on the Internet the remotes need to be set to a specific mode, but following the instructions to change mode doesn't appear on my remotes? Any ideas would be greatly recived.

Welcome to Beoworld.
If you have the new Beo4 with joystick and you want to control older products like BS2 you have to set your Beo4 to MODE 2. Press Standby and LIST simultaneously and navigate to MODE? Press SELECT and navigate to MODE2 - press SELECT.
Stefan
HI
thanks for the welcome.
the remote I have is an old beo4 remote (the most common pic on google image search).
the problem I'm having is that I can't get mode up on the remote by pressing standby and list, I have gone through every option that will come up but can't see anything to change the mode.
also tried resetting the remote but no help.

Very likely you have an "old" Beo4 with "GO" button in the center - "MODE" setting does not apply to your remote.BeoSysten 2 also does not support navigation by "joystick".To navigate through the menu use "ARROW UP" "ARROW DOWN" "DOUBLE ARROW LEFT" "DOUBLE ARROW RIGHT"
Sorry about my misunderstanding. I thought you were looking for the MODE setting.
Just follow Viennas advice...:)
Thanks guys will try when I get home, though I'm pretty sure that'si tried that and it didn't let me scroll down the list, it does sound like the one you are describing though, thanks for replying and I will let you know
HHey still no good, the remote is an old one (go button in the middle ) but the arrow buttons are not doing anything, would it help if I uploaded some photos so you can see exactly what my set up is? B & O are asking £100 for an engineer to come out but I'm sure I must just have something simple set up wrong. Any ideas??
Yes, maybe some pics will help....(?)
I must admit, I have no clue, what`s going wrong here (as everybody else...?)
and that`s a very annoying situation....
Hi,
Maybe a stupid question: are you sure, you have a beosystem 2? As far as I know BS2 has no language setting OSD.
Should you have a BS3, then I asume it is set to "remote with navigation key". This matches perfectly your symptoms. The only way to change is to use a remote with navigation keys to modify the settings.

...or choose menu-item by numbers. 1-2-3 and so on from above and "go", till you get into the resetting of 'with or without navi-key'.
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks guys, having a few probs getting photos on but will preserver, it's definitely a beosystem 2 as I have just google imaged it, will keep trying to upload pics of it and the remote and a pic of the menu screen it's on. Cheers for taking the time
Hi, have managed to upload two pics to my profile they show the menu and the beosystem 2 with the remote. Still trying to upload the pic of the back of beosystem to show connections ps no such thing as a stupid question as I don't know much when it comes to b & o so could be something very simple
Thanks for the pics.
Have you connected any third party devices to BS2?
And did you try to press GO - UP and GO - DOWN?
Unfortunately I'm out working tonight so haven't tried anything, I have a DVD player attached via scart lead to the middle input on beosystem with the DVD on the root menu
The OSD language screen on your pic has nothing to do with B&O/Beosystem2.
With the Beo4 you can control the "tv" - but not userinterface of the 'box' (connected via scart).
Unless it would be connected via PUC/ir-cable! For the BS2 there probably won't be any PUC for it!
PUC = Periferial Unit Control.
You have to control an external box with its own remote.
With the Beo4 you can open the scartport of the BS2 and control the volume - that is about all.
At least that is how I "read" the picture.
That`s what I expected. I think what we see on your picture is not BS2 menu, but (maybe) the DVD menu, controlled by Beo4.
Older systems often controled UP - DOWN commands by GO - UP and GO - DOWN, because UP - DOWN were referred to for example CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN.
We`ll see.....
Hey guys, right tried the go up go down buttons to and no luck, taken the DVD player away so now only the tv and beosystem linked up with an rs232 cable and a 19 pin d plug cable, powered up and the menu is back so presume it must be a b & I menu??
What do you mean by "...the menu is back..."?
You disconnected the DVD player, BS2 and BV4 are connected, and if you press TV, system starts up and the screen displays the language menu you have uploaded to your profile??
Sorry, a bit confusing, because I`m quite sure, that this is not an original B&O menu...
If you press TV and then MENU it should display the original BS2 menu.
Do you have the BS2 manuals?
I thought you were asking about how to control third party DVD player connected to your BS2. You can do that with Bo4 via a PUC (peripheral unit controler) that is built into your BS2. Should be described in the manual.
Do you have the original remote fo the DVD player? What brand, model is it? How was it connected and assigned to the BS2?
Hey, let me explain how I got the set up, I was given the beovision 4-65 screen with a beo4 remote an ir sensor and nothing else, I was told that to run it I needed a beosystem 2 which I got off ebay. I then found out the cables I needed to connect it together ( a rs232 cable and a 19 pin d plug cable, attached them and set up an old DVD player via scart lead to what the manure showed as the av input ( unless I read it wrong ) powered up and this menu and nothing else came up. So basically when I turn the tv on via the remote and ir sensor on beosystem 2 the tv comes on with this menu on the screen
Manual
Very strange.
You just press TV, BS2/BV4 turn on, and the menu is displayed on the screen??!
I can`t believe it!! You collected your system from three different sources, makes things not easier.
Can be ir sensor not matching BS2( does it work properly - BS2 / BV4 power up when pressing a video source, does it power down by pressing Standby?). Is it possible to select the BS2 menu, for example by pressing TV MENU, as described before?
Can be the cables, are they original from Beo?
What about the DVD player remote? Can you control the player?
Did you assign any inputs to DVD, DTV, V.TAPE....?
You have the manual?
A lot of questions...:)
Hi
Thanks for your help Stefan.
working during the day the straight out working during the evening so finding it hard to fault find for you but will do my best.
Ok, it's not possible to select any other menu or get anything else up on screen, spent hours when first hooked it up changing between differant things on the remote and trying menu- up dwn on each setting ( tv,video, sat ect)
Powers up on pressing tv and powers down on pressing standby.
Dvd player is old and no remote ( usually watch dvds now on ps3 ) thought root menu would be enough to get it going.
cables are standard cables from the workshop I manage not B & O
Dont know how or if by accident I assigned any inputs.
PS ir sensor came from installation that the screen came from.
Manual is just pdf of internet.
I knew it was going to be difficult to get it all going but was given the screen and remote and ir sensor for free as the owner was killed in an accident involving the screen and his wife just wanted me to get the screen out of her house. unfortunatly they were running two tvs of the one beo2 so kept the beo2.
Plus the fact it's difficult will make it all the more enjoyable when its working.
Cheers
Whoa, the owner was killed in an accident involving the screen? Scary!
But to me it looks like the menu for the Panasonic plasma (or at least they seem similar). Maybe it have reset itself or something. You don't have a Panasoic remote laying around, do you?
That`s it !! You are right !!
It`s the Plasma menu. I can`t believe that I was so blind.....
That`s why you can`t see the BS2 menu. And that`s why you still see the menu after disconnecting the DVD player.
You will need a Panasonic remote to configure the panel. Or maybe it will work manually if there are buttons on the panel.
Thanks Magnus!
Wow, that was a weird job.
@Magnus
Guys that's great, I will try and get a Panasonic remote and give it a go, presume the ir sensor is on the panel somewhere and once the screen is configured I will be able to see the beo 2 menu.
the way it killed him should serve as a warning to others, he was moving house and the installation was that the screen was on some kind on pneumatic rams and he was disconnecting it all and it lowered onto him and crushed his chest. Shows how easy things can go wrong if you don't know what your doing.
thanks for all you time and I will post as soon as I have tried
cheers
