Hi All,
Thanks for some of the great advice some of you have given since I've joined a fees days ago. Super helpful
I have gotten some beolab 8000s and 6000 for a home cinema setup running from a Yamaha rx v771.
I intended to go without a centre speaker but now it seems I really need one.
What is the recommend centre speaker for this setup. I run a projector so I don't have a b&o tv.
Could I use another brand like kef or something?
Thanks again
Yes, you certainly may. The Yam is almost 100wpc into 8 ohms. This will drive almost any center speaker out there.
KEF is fine, like I said before, there are many other brands to look at as well. JBL, Klipsch, B&W, Martin Logan, Definitive, Quad... Oh, and Yamaha!
If you haven't already, make sure you check out the BeoLab 7.4.
Beo4 'til I die!
Hi Evan,
Thanks again. Yeah I've seen the beolab 7-4... It is a funny shape, I'm really drawn to the horizontal centres.
Can I use a beolab7, or a 3500?? They look great I think.
Failing that, with specifically would you say would be a great non B&O centre to match the quality of a B&O?
I also read you should match the timbre... (I don't even know what that is) and the best way to do is match the brand.
Surely with a centre being mostly for voice it would be ok to use a different brand like the kind you suggest????
OR... would a purist tell you, no no no you just can't do that!!!?
The BeoLab 7-1/7-2/7-6 isn't the optimum center speaker. It is more of an all-in-one speaker, that is great if you don't have additional speakers, but not the best didicated center speaker.
The BL7-4 and BL10 is optimised for center speaker duty and is what i will recommend. Will also look great with the BL6000/8000 you allready have
Can't comment on center speakers from other manufactures.

I run 8000's as fronts and 4000's as rears in my 5.1 SETUP. They run from my Beovision7. I would suggest a BL7.1 OR BL7.2. It will serve perfect as a center in your setup.
Dimitris-
I wouldn't worry too much about timbre, leave that for the purists. A center channel plays a very different role in a surround sound system.
For your setup, I would look for a speaker that is at least a three-way. The center channel must be brawny, it has to produce roughly 70-80% of the sound information in a surround mix. My preferences for center channels lean toward those with good HF dispersion (a universally good attribute in speakers, I know..) and forward firing reflex ports.
Sorry I have to keep this short, flight attendants are for in me to turn off my mobile!
