Hi,

So I took the plunge and bought a BeoMaster 8000 on eBay. Cosmetically it's in great condition, but I can't get it to make a peep :(

When I first turned it on all the LED's lit up, and I was able to adjust radio frequency & volume. I plugged in an iPod, but couldn't get it to output anything significant on any channel. When I turned the volume up there was a faint hint of a drum beat but nothing more than that.

I've powered it down, and back up. Now the LED's aren't lighting. Only the one on the left lights up - and changes in response to the volume knob.

EDIT: After leaving it on standby for a while and then turning it back on the LED's seem to be functioning as they should. Still no sound out of the speakers. When I plug in headphones and play music through the tape 2 channel I can hear a *very* distorted signal that's quite faint - something's working in there but it's not right.

I've read a bit on these forums about servicing these, but I think I'd be out of my depth with a soldering iron. Not sure this is the one to learn on...

Can anyone recommend anywhere I could get it professionally serviced in the UK? Ideally in the south as I'm in Reading. Any ideas on likely issues & costs? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks, Mat

Is Tim Jarman still active? My 8000 went to him just before I bought it. He's in the right area for you too.

Peter might be along to tell you whether Tim's an option. If not, then I can think of an excellent alternative in Denamrk, but shipping the 8000 might be an issue with the weight.

I'll see if Tim is still interested - he does have a few things keeping him busy these days!

Tim will do it - he lives in Farnborough so close to you. Email me and I will give you his telephone number and you can organise it.
