Hi,

I just bought a Beogram 1000 for 25€. I thought I made a good deal on it, but upon closer inspection I noticed some parts were missing like the tonearm weight and the plastic spacer for singles and the stylus was broken.. The belt was also loose, but I got in place and at least I got the thing running, the platter is spinning nice and (kinda) smooth, all 3 speeds work and it's not making a terrible noise. But. It won't stop!

It's supposed to start spinning when you lower the tonearm, right? But it keeps spinning even if I put the tonearm back to its "holster". The main reason why I bought the turntable is that my father has a Beomaster 900RGD and it's missing the original turntable! I know that he still has a spare cartridge (SP6 or 7 iirc) back home, so I know if the turntable works otherwise as soon as I visit my parents. I'd be grateful to accept some advice regarding the automatic start/stop and how to fix it and more than happy if someone had an extra tonearm weight, single spacer or possibly a replacement stylus or any cartridge that will fit this one!

I'd also appreciate any information on the inner workings of this particular machine. There's a big circuit board in the machine (which I presume is the integrated preamp) and a small "shortcircuit board" that is fitted on top of that, which, when in place, ignores the bigger circuit board. Right? I can post pictures later on. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Picked up a toothbrush and some ethanol and cleaned out most of the parts. Noticed the small contact point on top of the tonearm "mount" and now to start/stop automation works. The lowering switch did work when I first tested it, but now it doesn't seem to do anything.

The outer wooden case is a bit wobbly on the  back and the inner black wooden case is crooked, I suppose I don't actually need them if i mount it on the Beomaster. Picked up a Count Basie LP from a fleamarket and waiting for my replament SP-6 to come in the mail so I can test if I can get any sound out.

What would be the correct height and angle to set the tonearm and the mounting point? I tried looking at some pictures on google, but couldn't find anything that would show the angle properly. And can anyone tell me the actual weight of the counterweight, since mine is missing. Still willing to buy a counterweight and the black plastic spacer for singles. Or the tonearm if someone is willing to part with one. Or the whole turntable if someone has a faulty one for parts..

Suppose I should just lubricate the whole motor with some (sowing) machine oil? It makes a bit of noise but I guess it isn't too bad..

Bah! Got the packet today from mail, SP-14 in original package, looked to be in decent shape. Hooked up the turntable to my amplifier (no phono input) but got no sound out.. The Beogram has the 5 pin Din cable and another rca cable soldered in the same connectors on the pcb. Got nothing from the rca cable, cant test the din, no adapter, but I reckon it's exactly the same since it's soldered in the same place.

Tried with and without the small shortcircuit board. No luck. I can hear the music when I listen close to the stylus, so at least that's working :D

What could be the problem? Can I take any readings from the pcb or outputs to know that I don't have a faulty cable? Do I need an amplifier with phono input? I just bought a new Harman / Kardon amp since my old started failing, that one might have had a phono input :/ Any help would be appreciated..

Use the blinding board alone for a start, it's not supposed to sit there together with the RIAA anyways.
One or the other. Not both.

I took it all apart, cleaned all the parts and oiled them up, got the motor running nice and smoothly. Soldered all the connections and hooked it up to my amplifier. It works! Except without the counterweight there's too much weight on the needle and it won't work. Can anyone tell me what's the correct weight for the counterweight?

I managed to get a Beogram 1001 which was sold for parts, but to my horror it had no counterweight either when it arrived :(

So once again I am asking. Does anyone have a Beogram 1000 or anything else with the ST/L-15 pickup who could measure and weigh the counterweight for me?! Or if anyone has a spare counterweight or the whole pickup arm, I would be willing to buy it.

Thanks in advance :)
