I feel so stupid and sad at the same time. This weekend my cousin and I moved my Avant 32" DVD. We needed to move it down one flight of stairs, and I chipped the corner.

This TV have followed me through 4 different apartments and have been carried up and down the stairs each time to 3rd or 4th floor, without anything happening.

One could argue that it doesn't really matter as I have been trying to sell it for ages, but as no one wants to buy this kind of TV, this doesn't seem to happen, but this doesn't exactly makes the odds better.

Anyway, this made me curious, if any other members have a story about an accident or other unlucky episode with some of their gear??

I did....

Picked up a beautiful F1000 with 3 cubes, and damaged it taking it out the car.

Sad

But hard to notice a meter away.
But still...

I was rearranging some cables and units, and had moved my Beolink 7000 in its table charger on the floor. At some point I crouched down and actually sat on the damn thing!

The hook of the charger broke off. I soldered the wires back on, glued the hook with epoxy and the thing works just as good as ever. No physical damage on the remote itself...

(Where is Mobey nowadays? He would have quite a few stories... Big Smile

I did mute phono input from my BM5500 by plugging CD50 in it. Noticed error in a fraction of second when start to play CD! After that input was permanently muted (so far).

 blah-blah and photographs as needed

So far, no, at least I think not. I haven't unpacked it after this latest move so...? I'm sure hoping not.

But I can understand the horror of finding out you've done it, more than any other electronics B&O stuff is in large part special because of it's look and style, and damaging that loses a lot of it's appeal. I shudder at some of the damaged stuff I see for sale on eBay, a lot I won't consider buying because I know I can fix functional issues, appearance is harder.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Just the same story for me, last year. If you search the archived forum for avant and paint you'll find a post describing that the silver is the same BMW uses/used. This helped me to find the color code and I had it rectified by a professional painter.

I did accidentally bend the cantilever of a freshly retipped MMC4 cartridge because of my clumsiness. I was very lucky that Axel Schürholz has a great customer service, he replaced it immediately with no charge!

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

Yes on my former Beosystem 6500 there were some damage bits in the chrome.

The older B&O seems to last better. Somehow a Beovox S45-2 fell on top of my white Beocord 6000 and damaged the display glass but I have a replacement on hand. The Beovox is fine.

One of my former Beolab 6000 fell ower causing a little damage and the guy buying the Beolab 8000 found a tiny scratch on one of them.

My boyfriend connected my BeoSystem 1 (when it still had value) to an electrical outlet that was on a dimmer, blowing the BeoSystem 1 and resulting in a $1200 USD repair. I broke up with him the next day.

I've lost count of the number of Beo4 LCD screens that I have replaced for customers not to mention the battery covers that have been snapped off breaking the plastic lugs.

Also seen a fair amount of liquid damaged handsets.

This reminds me of when I experimented with using the same pair of speakers for a Beomaster 2400 and a Beovision LX2502, Both output stages of the 2400 were smoked - I guess it was at least a decade ago...

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

Hi Opman,

How much does an LCD screen in a Beo4 cost to replace please?

I'm sure it will be only a matter of time.....

Knocked the glass doors off on an old BS2300 countless times. Not in years now though. The glass doors has been glued back on it's "hinge" probably 3-4 times. Stick out tongue

A cat managed to play with my Beolink 7000 remote, and drop it on the floor. Only damage was a tiny bump on the metal plate. Yes - thumbs up

A Beocom 2400 one fell on the floor I think one of my parents dogs got caught in the line. There was quite a puzzle of bits as a result. Big Smile

Too long to list....

One of my parents old tv's, an MX4000 in white. (Brand new condition then) had a problem and didn't turn on.

Well, my father and brother loaded it into their van, and the idea was that my brother would sit in the back holding the TV on the way to the repair shop.

Only problem was that my father forgot about the TV in the back, and left.

First corner?

You got it.

Big Smile

The TV only got cosmetically damaged, such as broken shell, broken speaker cloth, broken contrast screen, but the TV repair shop fixed the technical problem with only 50 euro in parts and labour. LOL!!!

Bringing it back home, it took a few more rolls at the back of the van.

It ended up fixed, but thrashed.

Too long to list....

When I lived in my old apartment I had a Beolink 7000 in mint condition sitting on my desk. The apartment was very small and the bathroom was located next to the study. I had bought some shampoo and conditioner and other stuff I keep in the bathroom. The usual routine would be to unpack the bathroom stuff on the desk and then move everything to it's designated place in the tiny bathroom. SadlyThe shampoo fell and just hit the Beolink on the metal plate leaving a tiny but annoying bump in the metal plate. Needless to say I shaved all my hair to prevent this from happening again Big Smile

I knew the glass panels were loose.

They just rested in place.

I planned on repairing them.

I gathered everything I needed.

I nonchalantly raised the top and...

watched in slow motion as the lower glass panel crashed to the floor!

Back in 1979, I moved a cupboard on which a Beomaster 6000 stood. I had forgotten to remove the power cord and the Beomaster fell one and a half meters down on the parquet. It (the receiver) never became the similar.

If we can all fit into the Tardis (wait, shouldn't that be T.A.R.D.I.S.? Anyway ,,,) I will take you back to 1985 ...

I came home with the Beomaster 5000 and Beocord 5000 and was setting them up ... for some reason I decided to hold one of them in one hand while I juggle some wires.

For anyone who has handled vintage B&O, you know juggling 5000s with one hand is a herculean feat.

Sadly the unit slipped and scratched the aluminium panel of the other unit.

Sad

I still have the units, and everytime I look at the scratch I kick myself

Placing test leads for adjustment I shorted out my BM 901 not only one time but two times, each time some diodes and transistors got damaged, as I dont find good spares here in Mexico I by from the US, each time high shipping cost, or ship to an US address and wait until I can go up there for pick up, The BM 901 was down for more than a year.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
