Hi all,

Last year I picked up a complete Beosystem 5500, and have been slowly returning it to its former glory. I'm hitting a few pitfalls, of which potentially deserve their own threads, but i'm currently having an intermittent problem with what I think is the Beogram CD5500 or the whole system.

Some times, not always, when playing a CD - within the first 0 - 20 seconds the sound will cut out completely. Stopping the CD and starting it again fixes the problem. I would say this behaviour happens 1 out of 3 times I go to play a CD otherwise it plays the CD fine. Usually I do this straight after powering on the system. It doesn't need time to 'warm up' or anything like that, does it?

Does anyone here have any ideas? Or maybe someone knows of somewhere I could take the system in the London area to be looked at?

Hi,

I may be wrong, but my guess is bad solder joints in the CD player which is prone to that kind of trouble. When I got mine, there were countless bad joints I had to re-flow, especially in the PSU section.

The kind of behaviour you describe is quite typical.

Have you tried to plug the 5500 at the tape input?

Jacques
