hi guys, MMC4000 stylus arrived from ebay, fitted it to arm but when i try to play a record no sound, on closer examination it looks like the arm is not touching the record
have looked at the manual on here and it talks about adjusting screw A untill the arm is approx 3mm from the record, i cannot see screw A, any ideas please
You need to take off the large flat aluminum cover that holds the counterweight at the rear of the tonearm. The screw sits down there.
Martin
thanks for the speedt reply, how is the cover held on, slide it back or pop it off
have just found an archived topic entitled - just bought a beogram 1902 - have looked at the detailed photo's and my arm seems to be the same, problem with a little brass screw, what do you think?
Lift it right up.It has a little friction but will come off easily.
hi martin, your photo from the 2008 thread looks pretty comprehensive and describes my problem exactly, the photo and instructions from jandyt appear to confirm it is the brass pin which is the problem, so i will look at that first before i fiddle with the settings and do more harm than good
by the way, did you post the belt yet, post is beyond slow at this end

Posted last week.
The lift/lower problem usually causes the tonearm/cartridge to drag across the record after end playing. In other words; It will almost always lower but not lift - or at least lift very, very slowly (over minutes). But check it. It's a common fault.
can't really play a record because the stylus does not go down far enough to make contact with the record, the gap is about the width of a record so i cheated, i put an LP on the platter, then i put a 45 on top of that and it played perfectly, no drag at all, i followed the instructions below from the old thread
Chris,This is a (bad) picture looking down the arm (blue arrow)When the arm lowers, the black plastic piece (green arrow) should lower enough to leave a gap between itself and the screw (red arrow). If it doesn't, then either the black bit isn't going down enough (most likely) or the screw needs adjusting (doubt it)If the black bit isn't going down enough, the brass pin isn't free properly in it's sleeve and the arm will still be resting on it. You won't be able to test balance on zero, nor feel whether horizontal movement is free and easy.
Martin, how am I doing?
my arm is exactly the same so i figure i will take a look at the brass pin first, then reassesss
Seems like the right way to go.This screw usually won't go out of adjustment by itself so look out for broken and/or bent things. However, one possible reason for this height "misadjustment" could be that the previous owner had an antistatic matplaced on the platter and corrected the tonearm height to accomodate.
that's a good point, will update in a day or two with the results of the brass pin inspection, i appreciate you taking time to assist
hi martin, firstly belt arrived today many thanks, took the beogram apart today and located the pin, gave it some oil and a bit of a jiggle, loosened it up but still not going down far enough so revisited the 2008 thread and saw this post from christophstone
The black plastic part was going down as far as it could, but the arm still wasn't lowering enough. Looked insiade and teh crew was down as far as it would go, so simply wound it up a few turns, pressed play, and voila
tried this and magic , plays wonderful, many thanks for your help and a big thanks to the archived posts, they are just brilliant for someone like me, got all the duct tape glue off, it looks nothing like when i picked it up, next job to repair veneer on one corner of front panel, cheers
