I have a Beoplay S8 (one with all the channels in the subwoofer), a connection hub and a Sony smart tv connected using an optical cable. I also have an Airport Express connected to the connection hub using the mini jack (using for Airplay 2). When playing music using Airplay 2, the connection hub auto switches to the tv signal after 5 - 10 minutes of playing, because the tv sends out stand by noise on the optical cable. The Sony tv us running Android TV.

I have tried to disconnect the optical cable and then everything works. So I know its the tv's standby "noise" that triggers the auto switching.

How to solve this so I can hear Airplay 2 music without the connection hub switching to the optical port signal, because the tv is sending out standby noise?

Its not an option to buy a new tv :) Want to solve it with what I got if possible.

If your tv has aux output, you can switch with the airplay so the airplay is optical.

Or you can run a hdmi adapter box between the tv and the hub.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

Is the AUX output not analog where the optical is digital? Is there a big difference in using optical vs AUX for a normal non music/sound nerd? :)

So a HDMI to AUX converter could be an option? Or is there a HDMI to optical converter?

I have the same problem, just not that often.

Often hours without a problem.

I have a Chromecast audio connected also to the 3,5mm jack.

The 3,5mm jack is also mini optical.

With a small adapter that was on the Chromecast optical cable it was in the mini toslink.

And the tv on the normal toslink.

Now I switched them around with the adapter on the tv optical cable connected on the mini toslink.

And the Chromecast connected to the normal toslink.

And it's playing for hours now.

Let's see if it helps.
