Hi folks,
I have a recently acquired BM6000 that has some issues, the most vexing of which is that if I turn the volume past about 1/3 the way up, what I'm assuming is some sort of overload protection kicks in and shuts down the receiver.
Plays almost loud enough without kicking in, but as soon as I push it to where I want it, click-silence.
I'm just checking here to see if there's an easy fix for this or if it requires a complex repair. I am just learning how to get into these things, I did change the volume control band on this one successfully (although it's still a bit tricky -- the new band enables volume control but acts like it's still slipping a bit -- I'll look into that later though).
I'm an electronics beginner, I'll say that upfront, but I am very interested in learning how to repair and restore certain B&O amps -- I currently have a Beomaster 4000 that's not working, a couple of 1900s with problems, and this 6000 that I like a lot.
The other issues I can identify with my 6000 is that I think it suffers from weak bass -- I have it turned up all the way and it's just enough, but no more, so I'm assuming some bad caps or something else is affecting that.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered --
Harold
After 25-30 years it needs a service overhaul.New capacitors and trimmers in the output stage and a general check for cracked solder joints.Nothing unusual.
