Have an old (ish) B&O system comprising Beomaster 2000, Beocord 2000, Beogram 2000, and Beovox CV100 speakers. Had it since new in late 1985 early 1986. Although it has always been in the house, it has not been used much in the past 11yrs. I have recently purchased a USB DAC and adaptor lead from Soundsheavenly as I wish to use the old B&O system to play my tapes and records and record them onto my laptop and save as a WAV file.

The USB DAC & leads arrived all ok.........but unfortunately  the Beocord then showed its age by trying to play the tape then stopping! Had a good look and managed to download the old service manuals.......several minutes later I had the covers off and yes you guessed it....the main drive belt had stuck and stretched and triggered the torque stop! Noticed that the other two belts are showing signs of distortion!

Questions:

  1. Are the three belts still available? If so where from?
  2. Having looked through the service manual and all the tech adjustments (lots) would I have to get anything reset like the speed???? (due to fitting a new belt)
  3. I presume the belt (is there more than one?) in the Beogram would/could do the same, so where to get a belt for that??
  4. Not managed to find as detailed a stripdown manual for the Beogram, so is replacing the belt easy?? Again would anything need adjusting like speed??
  5. Read about the problems of the drivers/cones foam edge disintegrating. How do you remove the grills to check for this?
  6. Also where to get repair kits, and is it DIY?
  7. Also I will try to clean the whole set of light dust, clean the contacts etc with IPA, lubricate moving bits with special plastics grease (used this on old VHS recorders)...

Anything else to do or check??...also approx. costs for repair items and links/contacts

I am fairly competent at DIY, watch repairs, soldering etc........just a bit scary if you make a mistake due to new replacement costs!

Thanks, .....David   Yes - thumbs up

Listening to B&O since conception!

Beomaster 2000 (type 291x), Beogram 2000, Beocord 2000, BeoVox CX100, & now with added Beogram CD3500.

Other Hi-Fi is Denon & Monitor Audio, with fancy DIY cabling/bi-wiring, mains filters etc., etc.

Welcome to Beoworld!

Get in touch with Dillen as he can supply the correct belts and advice you will need. Martin(Dillen) is the main man to go to when it comes to old school B&O. He is one of the moderators here so not hard to get in touch with.

UPDATE

Figured out how to check the speakers.....use a plastic spatula ...CAREFULLY!!................and ease the grills off...........three per speaker!!....anyway all cones etc ok!!

Contacted Martin................................I think it's safe to say he knows a thing or two......................Big Smile

Duly ordered a full set of belts for the Beocord & Beogram from him...all arrived (very reasonable price) OK and then had fun fitting! The Beogram only required 2 screws to remove the "top plate".

The Beocord on the other hand................Angry...............even though Martin provided a set of detailed instructions I had to remove the front touch plate, as this was trapping the front part of the cassette mechanism and the front locating lug would  not lift clear of the slot!! Anyway greased the mechanism and then had fun re-aligning the whole lot with the dolby, record, tape switches/sliders, visible gaps etc...........Powered up and the mech worked!!...but the record level lights were all on and no sound!! ..................Angry......So another email to Martin (HELP......what have I done wrong?). Turns out it's a common problem.................just look for two black 220uf capacitors on the top circuit board and replace them! So I was getting some stuff from CPC so just ordered some 16V 105C 220uf ones (watch the dia and height and pin spacing) I used code no. CA07518...So powered up again ....and YES IT WORKS......or NOT................Super Angry...............now had sound but the rewind started then cuts out! So figured that the rewind spindle doesn't get used much as the ff one is also play! So carefully removed the top black cone of the spindle and striped the bits off...then cleaned, and re-greased. tested again and ......................Lets have a Party !!!....................................

So now the whole B&O system works and has had a bit of an overhaul!!!......................

...........Now what was the original purpose/question?????..........Confused....................

Oh I remember!........................to use the B&O as my only cassette and record players to use to connect the USB DAC to the computer....now I know I got one and a special lead  from "Soundsheavenly"....but where did I put it????Erm..

Anyway a BIG THANK YOU TO...............MARTIN!!......................Yes - thumbs up

Martin is the man.

Question: now that the B&O analog gear is up and running, why not listen to it?
