Yes, I know..it's way overdue...to step into the world of flatscreens. Been looking at cheap Bv5's for quite some time now, but realizes its a bit crippled with only analog connections in todays world of HDMI and HD.

But, as I have been waiting, prices has been coming down on the used BV9 sets! :)

Today, at least where I live, a used BV 9-50 or BV 10-46 are usually on the same level..

Which one is the best buy for around 3500-4000 Euros?  Pros and cons?

Thanks!

/Peter

Hi Millemissen!

That's a clear answer on my question :)

What makes the BV10-46 a better choice? Since it is newer and the LED technology now beats the HD Plasma in performance? I remember reading about some backlit issues a while ago with the BV10-46 (uneven or irregular backlit) and  I thought the plasma still has a better and natural picture?

Is the sound better also? I was thinking since the BV9 has the acoustic lense and I will combine it with BL8000 and BL6000 and a sub, it might be a good combination, perhaps the BV10-46 is better as stand alone since it has stereo sound?

Thanks,

/Peter

I would have the 9. I have a 10-40 and was disappointed with the sound which was nothing like that of my Avant or the replacement 5. The picture is extremely good on the 10 though and I think the design superior - it seems to float on the floor stand. Too thin for good sound though.

Hello Peter,

For me, the key would be the version of that BV9, and what hours it has on it.  If it is last generation with ACM and 2nd generation System 3, it becomes a very interesting alternative.  The last BV9 and first BV10-46 certainly crossed paths.  I would dig deeper.

Maybe too quick for an answer - I know.

You did not mention anything about your speakers in your first post.

So a BV with a stereo speaker system got priority over one with a dedicated center speaker.

If the BV9-50 is good depends on the version, as symnes already wrote - you did not mention anything about the version in your post.

The BV9-50 is a big thing - and how am I to know if it fits in at your place.

So anyhow - a quick and unspecified question deserves a quick answer Whistle

Please let us know what you choose (if you choose either)

Greetings Millemissen

I don't really like the Plasma type of image much, but even I would have the impressive 9 over a 10-40 etc.

The picture was good, but the sound was just to thin like Peter said. You ok'd never be a long term Avant owner and see a 10 as an upgrade. The 11 is better in every way, especially the sound. If you already have Beolab 8-6000's, the 9 should be a no brainer.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

The BV9 BY FAR!

I had a BV10 40" before my BV9, biggest mistake I ever did was to buy it. I was never satisfied with it.

The BV9 MK3 on the other hand.... That's a proper B&O TV!

Too long to list....

I enjoyed BeoVision 9 (mk2 d10 plasma)  for 4 years ,and have not found a TV with a better picture.

for me plasma is far more real ,and smooth image with real black.  ( picture looks real to my eyes )

I do not know why, but for me BeoVision 10 has emagine very sharp. ( looks like a PC game)

Thanks for the input guys!

I think I will look for a 9 then.. I do like the design also even if it is more big and massive than the 10, which is more sleek..

What is the main differences between the Mk1,2 and 3 of the BV9? Apart from the hour of usage, what else is there to check on a used one?

To me the 9 seems like the ultimate TV, with a very natural picture compared to LED ( which sometimes makes the picture "too good", just like claudiu mentions, it seems "unreal") Is there anything that this TV lacks compared to other BV's?

/Peter

Some Bv 9's came with a Beomedia 1 built in also a Hard Drive Recorder for Tv. Some times none or one or the other! Check.

The units can be added....I believe it is possible to put a Beosound 5 in tv in stead of a Beomedia 1. But you need to check that!

Sorry to say that guys, but the older my BV 10 gets, the more I like it.

Sound is not so bad with a good source.

Since I discovered the Youtube app on my PS3, i play a lot of concerts on the BV10 with picture mute.

Enjoying it, better sound than Dvb-hd source.

Not to be dismissive, but IMHO the "extras" such as recorders, mediacenters or DVB in the BV9 are not something to get hung up on.

Try and find a MK3 version. It's the latest. It has the ACM camera and the panel is ofcourse full HD. I use mine with a good Humax DVB that has 3 tuners (you can record two while watching a third!) and an Apple TV (can be something else of course) This is IMHO far more versatile than the somewhat clumsy options B&O offered.

BeoGreg:

I also considered a BV9 against a BV10-46 (I now own a BV11-46) and went for the BV10-46 and was pleased with the decision. It looks more modern, you can swap the frets to suit your mood (love the orange fret on the BV10), easily connect an Apple TV and you have most of the functionality of the BV11 and sport is much better on an LCD than plasma. Grass isn't rendered as well on a plasma, I find. So, if you're a sports fan, LCD is the better option.

Try and find a 'MKIV' 2013 BV10 if you can. The panels in these are the same as the BV11 and I cannot fault my MKIV BV10-32. Simply superb. Picture is arguably better than on my BV11 - primarily due to the size of the smaller panel.

I disagree-Stick out tongue

Owning a Pioneer Plasma Full-HD, for me the latest (well, one year old ones, that is what I can compare) LED/LCD TVs are not as good at soccer/football (gras Wink), comparing Sky HD-Transmissions btw.
But for sure LCD/LED TVs have come very close.

Sorry.

PS: might just be a) a matter of settings and b) a matter of personal prefence/taste

I agree with Moxxey that the extra level of detail with LCD, and not having "Sky Sports" burnt into the screen is always a nice bonus!

???

Yeah, a LCD Full HD Panel has much more detail than a Plasma, espcially when watching sports.

Big Smile

Burnt in images is something I have never seen on my TV, luckily..

Next argument could be: Much more power consuming.... Whisper

But hey, as long as we are both/all happy with the image produced, who cares?

@Peter / OP: I suppose both are good TVs....
