Hi,

Several years ago, I installed a MCL2AV with a MCL2P in the kitchen.
The whole is connected to a Beocenter 9300  in the lounge

Since yesterday, and further to works in the lounge, the kitchen part does not work any more.

Mcl2p has his small red lamp on, but the 2 red dot on the MCL2 aren't on..

Is there  a fuse in the mcl2av ?

What can i verify else ?

Thank you for your help

Zazou

Sounds like the MCL2AV is not getting any power.  Check all your wiring, in particular the small grey power cable between MCL2P and MCL2AV.  Also check all the connections inside the MCL2AV.

There is no fuse inside the MCL2AV as far as I know.

Hi,

That was it !  the cable between Mcl2p and Mcl2av.

When i touched it,  the plastic on the 2 plugs returned to crumbs.

So i connected a mains adaptator, and it worked.

Thanks a lot

Good news - thanks for the update!

If I were you I would get the power cable repaired/replaced and start using it again as it seems a waste to have an extra mains adaptor consuming power.  It's quite difficult to find the exact size of the connection plugs as far as I remember!

Hi,

I was a bit too quick  !

It works but not as it should.

When i ask RADIO on the remote, Mcl2p goes green, but nothing else. The Beocenter 9300 doesn't react.

When i put directly Radio on Beocenter 9300, and then Radio in the kitchen, i have to increase a lot the volume to hear the radio.

I suppose, i have a problem with Datalink,

but i checked all the cables and wiring seems correct.

What can i do now ?

Thanks

Zazou

Hi again,

I would double check the wiring, especially between the MCL2AV and the Beocenter.  It sounds like you could have disturbed the cables and possibly have a problem with the ground connection - used by both data and the speaker paths. If there are any din plugs in the cable path open them up and check inside.

If you have the right cables you could also try a local source using the sockets on the front of the MCL2AV - accessed using SHIFT RADIO 6 or 7.

Hi Guy,

I tried Shift Radio 6 with my mobile phone connected, and it worked  at normal volume. That' s a good thing.

Now i have to control the 2 Din plugs wich are connected to the beocenter.

That's another work i will do this week.

Thanks

Zazou

If you have been disconnecting the din plugs as part of your fault finding, are you sure that you put them back in the correct left and right sockets on the Beocenter? I am away from home and cannot test at the moment, but I would imagine that reversed din collections could give the symptoms you described.

EDIT:  The din plug with green brown and pink wires should be in the Beocenter's speaker 2 right socket. MCL cabling is shown here:  http://www.beoworld.org/beotech/wiring1.htm

Hi,

I checked all the wires  of the MCL cable individally, and there is continuity on each.

It's connected  to Speacker 2 on the Beocenter.

I received the new DC cable from Sounds Heavenly, but it didn't change anything.

The beocenter doesn't react to the remote in the link room.

Does the beocenter need a special code to react to Mcl ?

Thanks

Zazou

The Beocentre does not require a special code but the MCL2AV should be in Link Options 2 and 6.  With the system at Stand By, Press LINK 2 STORE and then LINK 6 STORE using a BL1000 remote.  One of the sensor lights should flash to acknowledge.

You may also need to 're-program' the MCL2AV by Pressing and holding in the 'Timer' button on the sensor and then pressing 'AV' on the remote.

All this is explained on the Config guide which is on-site here: http://www.beoworld.org/manuals_view.asp?pid=1273

Another thought, you could check the Speaker 2 output by moving your speaker 1 connections across - speaker 2 output should be live all the time if normal speakers are connected.

Hi,

I put the link options on the mcl2av, and re programmed it.  Now the sound is higher; we can say normal volume.   My wife said : don't touch anymore, it works.

But there is one remaining problem : the beocenter doesn't react when i ask for a source in the linkroom.  I have to switch on the beocenter, and then when i ask Radio, ..., in the linkroom it works.

Best Regards from Alsace

Hi,

Here i am again.

Finally, my last problem was that the MCL plugs weren't at the right place on the beocenter.

Now it's works as it shoud. Many thanks for your patience.

But, another problem came with my Mlc2a with is downstairs in the garage were i work offen.

The mcl2a is connected to a beomaster 5500 wich is in my computer room. The plugs are connected  correctly .

But i can't use the remote. It doesn't work.

When the Beomaster in on radio, i can hear it when i press Mute on the IR receiver.

the only command i can use is  Hold on the Mute, and all is switched off, included the beomaster.

But after this,  no command works. (manual or remote).

I tested with a voltmeter, and all seems good, and i programmed the beomaster and the mcl2a.

What can it be this time ?

Many thanks

Zazou

Older Beomaster 5500s just do not work with MCL boxes. You would probably need a software update for the Beomaster, and it may be very difficult to find.

On the other hand, my BM5500 apparently had the later software, but it still did not work with an MCL2A - I never figured that one out. It behaved exactly the same as your setup, i.e all that worked was the all-off command.
